OTA Coming: AC noise/vibration

My truck started to make similar noises that others have registered their concerns over, when going from hot to cold (cabin >110 degrees, etc). Vibration in the pedal as well.

Decided it was annoying enough to put in a ticket on Friday, got a call this morning. She indicated that yes, it’s a known issue (we know they know about it…) and after a few questions, decided it fell into the “oh, it’s definitely THAT problem” category.

Told me an OTA is coming, and that my truck is flagged to receive whatever comes out. Removed the service request as a result.

Now let’s see if it shows up before winter, when very few of us need to blow the AC.

Interesting. I have a SC appointment in Sept with this as one of the issues. Wonder if they'll tell me the same thing.

Mine doesn't vibrate materially, but others I have been in do. For some reason when in use the compressor vibrates quite excessively and you can see it when the back plastic behind the frunk is removed. I'm not sure how they will fix it.

Had a service appointment for this a year ago. At the time, my tech said the noisy, unbalanced, weed-wacker-sounding piece of junk that they use for an AC compressor was "within spec".

Maybe they are finally coming to their senses. Hopefully they aren't just saying what you want to hear...

Actually, yes reduced ambient temps. When the interior and exterior are <100°F, my AC is adequate (not great, but adequate). Any higher and it can't do the job. After all the testing Rivian did in "extreme" environments, how could this happen?

There's enough variability that performance at the extreme might not be as good in some vehicles as others. I'm guessing there might be slightly too much refrigerant in your system. Higher ambient temperatures mean higher pressures in general, too high of a pressure won't allow complete evaporation and condensation inside the system. Honestly I'd probably consider taking your truck to an automotive HVAC expert in your area versus waiting on Rivian for it. But it's more fun to complain incessantly I suppose.

Not fun to complain at all! I really want to like the R1S and have other things to worry about.
Plus, I would worry that allowing a non-Rivian shop to work on my R1S might void the warranty. I think EVs AC systems are a little different than ICE AC systems...
