My Rivian is in kneel mode all the time so the height changes a lot. One day I was at my nephew's house. I put the truck in an off-road mode with maximum height. I noticed that it took an unusually long time to get to max height. I wanted to look at the bottom of the truck and I didn't drive it in off-road mode. About an hour later I decided to leave. When I tried to switch the mode to normal on-road mode, it said it couldn't change the ride height because the air compressor had overheated. I'm not sure of the exact wording. I didn't think the compressor had been used more than usual. The outdoor temperature was not unusually hot. In other words, I couldn't get the truck out of off-road mode. I began to think what it would be like if the air compressor stopped working. I guess it's a problem if you're in off-road / max height because you can't go over 20 mph. I continued driving slowly and after a few minutes the ride height finally went down. That was the one and only time I've had this happen. Should I be worried? Has it happened to anyone else? Should I get the compressor serviced?

It seems there’s many vehicle subsystems which upon failure would render the vehicle unusable. The manufacturers could build vehicles with sufficient redundancy to avoid this risk such as a moon rover, but of course the cost would be prohibitive.
Should you be worried? No more than you worry about the vehicle Control Computer going belly-up.

You're right, Joe. Situations that make the vehicle unusable happen, but they are very rare. Otherwise nobody would buy them and nobody would drive them. Rivian will take care of you, they don't have a lot of choice. When it does happen it's very bad. One of the trade-offs of EV's. It makes sense that you could still drive the car if the air compressor goes bad. For people who don't know, the air compressor is used to raise and lower the suspension in addition to inflating your tires and your beach ball.

This is not true. The air compressor is used exclusively for the suspension and is different from the inflator in the back of the bed. These are completely disparate systems.
