Since taking delivery of Opal (our R1T), we have had the same phones. We have been using two Samsung Note 20 Ultras. They have remained interfaced with Opal and have not caused any major issues. We have just ordered new phones. We are getting two Samsung S24 Ultras in a few days.

Is there anything special that we need to do to interface these phones with Opal? We are hoping that this will be a seamless transition, but are slightly anxious about making the switch. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Should not be a problem. When I replaced my iPhone, I just installed the Rivian app, it will prompt you to setup the phone as a key. I just followed the steps and once setup deleted the old one from the keys.

It was very quick and easy.

My advice is to make sure the new phones are named differently than the old phones. When I upgraded my iPhone, it literally cloned my old phone and even kept the same name. So when I registered the new phone it had two phones of the same name and I didn’t know which phone to delete afterwards.

Btw there is a bug right now that seems to prevent pairing with IOS 18.1 so those with iPhones, don’t delete your phone from the app because the new one won’t pair. Software patch apparently in the works.

Does the pairing problem occur with IOS 18.1.1 as well?

I have a Samsung S24 Ultra, S23+, and Google Pixel 6A as PAAK keys in my T. You'll want to give your phone a name so u can differentiate each one. I just installed the Rivian App on each and paired it to the T. Rivian will prompt you if u want to add the phone as a key.

We don't know, it could be an individual truck problem, like the Atmos music issues that only affect some people, like me.

I just updated (R1T 1st gen) from a iphone 12 max pro (or whatever the top one was then) to a iphone 16 Pro Max. Worked fine, although I did have to add the new phone as a bluetooth device for streaming music (right now I'm too cheap to pay for the Rivian Connect).

I’m getting ready to upgrade to a new iPhone. Please confirm my steps below.
  1. Once the new phone is restored and running, rename it to something different
  2. Install the Rivian app
  3. Setup the phone as a key.
  4. Test it to ensure everything works
  5. Deleted the old phone as a key
