Update to the paint "blemish" that developed on my R1S Roberta rear passenger door. All the details are here:
(93) Paint Defect, Rust, What Is Going On!? | Rivian Forum - R1T R1S R2 R3 News, Specs, Models, RIVN Stock -- Rivianforums.com

Did not know how to update that post with this and so created a new one :(. Tips?

At any rate, Rivian Certified Service center has completed all the repairs (repainting) to the rear passenger-side door and rear quarter panel, the latter repainted to blend in color of rear door.
New details:
1. Corrosion did develop on aluminum door skin under paint
2. A pinhole developed in the skin under blemish
3. Water/moisture started getting under paint from the inside of the door (glass) thus speeding up corrosion
4. Rivian REPLACED the passenger-side rear door!

Waiting on some final trim pieces that broke and needed replacement.
WIll have to let it sit in my garage for 30 days.
Then off to my expert XPEL installer for 10 mil PPF reinstall and OptiCoat Pro+ ceramic reapplication.
Rivian will cover all the expenses.
Ended up declining a loaner car and took Uber credits instead (very generous ones) to get me to and from repair shop.
WIll be back in my garage probably next week :) :)

Here is a photo of it after the door replacement and repaint. All that graffiti on it!!!!

Who else is getting this?
Regarding my situation, I could not be happier with the results. Rear door replaced, repainted. I have looked and looked and looked again, cannot tell the difference from the paint on the rest of my beast. It might as well had come out of Normal, IL. Shop has done an outstanding job, about as perfect as it can get, and considering that I do not care about diminished value (no plans to sell).

Since getting my R1S back, it has been sitting inside my garage undriven lest something happens to the paint job driving it around. It finally goes to my XPEL expert PPF installer for a redo including ceramic coating next week.

In the end, the repair shop having told me that only rear pass. side door and quarter panel would be painted, a bit of a disconnect. Was told until after the fact that in the end the front passenger door was repainted also, and Rivian sent yet another set of RIVIAN letters for installation. Those letters will come off again next week because of the PPF install. Rivian acknowledged the disconnect and sent me a fourth RIVIAN letters and template. So all ready for PPF.
Once that's done, will send invoice to Rivian for the PPF install, Rivian will cut me a check, and that will be the end of this. About three months it will be since I drove my R1S last.

Glad they stood by it.

I can't remember the last time I had a paint issue on a car. The right side was always a little blotchy in spots as if it needed another coat from the factory, but I was willing to let it go. Now with the corrosion on the left side, gonna open both issues on a ticket.

Unbelievable.
You'll get a brand-new replacement door.
Check out your nearest Rivian-certified collision center. Give them a heads-up; they will get the paperwork and process going for you. Took over a month to get mine fixed because of delays from Rivian providing parts. A lot of parts such as trim at bottom of door, around windows, etc. have to be replaced. Apparently, those parts are designed to break when attempting to remove them.
Find your regional contact at Rivian also, and stay on top of it with him. Good luck!

Just noticed this on my R1S (Feb 23 delivery) in nearly the same location (rear passenger door).

bummer. It has to be something on the line wasn't correct and took a few months to show.

For my experience, I called customer service and they said open a ticket first. Told me to not go to the certified collision center first. I didn't get an appt at the SC until mid-Dec, they confirmed the issue, updated the ticket and then would send it to the body shop (mentioned a new door is likely the fastest route).

My issue was the wait was going to be another 2 weeks to be seen by the body shop and with the holidays coming, I just wanted the car back. I am going to make a new appointment for January. The blotch has not gotten bigger since appearing two months ago.

Let us know how yours goes and I'll do the same.

Your corrosion will get bigger. It may take a long time, but it will get bigger for certain.
I looked up and went straight to the Rivian-certified collision center. Nothing the SC can do about this, anyway.
Stay on top of this with Rivian. Rivian will do right by you; it just takes a long time and a lot of nudging on your part, perhaps. It will look just as good as when it came out of the assembly line in Normal.

The collision center was a state-of-the-art place with several Rivians in various stages of disassembly. I asked and was given a tour of it. The corrosion is the result of a pinhole in the door skin. Water draining down the window glass on inside gets in and under the paint thus creating the corrosion.

If my experience is any indication, you too will be extremely satisfied with the results. Good luck.

How long did you have to wait for parts? I didn't want to have it sit for 3+ weeks over Xmas break not getting looked at.

It took 7 weeks to get it done. The collision center finished the work in three weeks at most. Then, they have to sit on their hands waiting for Rivian to send all the parts, and most everything gets replaced because as the collision expert told me, it is impossible to remove trim piecess off Rivians without breaking them. But the collision center kept bugging Rivian to send parts, and I hit Rivian on my own as well.
Rivian gave me a rental car, but I turned it down. Instead, I asked for Uber credits to go to and from collision center to drop off and pick up my Rivian.
And, I had XPEL PPF with Opticoat Pro+ ceramic coating on my Rivian.
To reapply PPF on door and rear panel and front door, $3,400. Rivian paid for all that.
And for the new RIVIAN letters on the front passenger door also.
I am an extremely picky person, will not allow anybody to push me around or will not take you-know-what from anybody. With that in mind, I am beyond joyful for how it turned out. Who cares about the diminished value. Perhaps this is a concern for you? It was not for me.

Let me know how it goes. Again, stay on top of RIvian like stink on you-know-what! :)
