Had my second R1T for a little over one year until I started noticing a weird 'thunk' sound upon opening the passenger side door. Rarely have passengers been in, except for my fiancé who was the first person to mention the abnormal sound to me while we were camping.

Upon closer inspection, the fender and passenger front door seem to have lost their factory alignment and started to rub on one another upon opening, removing a decent amount of paint, down to the metal. Fortunately, you can only notice the paint on the door missing, but if you look closer, you can see the metal on the fender as well.

I have reached out to service and have an upcoming appointment, but am curious of thoughts on getting it touched up vs blending the area? I am unsure what the service center will do, but it being Compass Yellow worries me.

This is a pretty common panel misalignment issue. Schedule a service appointment under your adjustment warranty. They'll respray the panels and adjust them.

They'll respray enough to at least blend it in seamlessly. If it's not up to your standards when you go to pick it up, then don't accept the vehicle and tell them to make it right.

I had that problem with mine the first time the temperature exceeded 100 degrees, the door panel expanded just enough to contact the fender rubbing a little paint off the edges.

Rather than wasting time on scheduling an appointment, I took a flat pry bar, wrapped some duct tape around it, opened the door, placed the pry bar in the gap and gently massaged it by lightly closing the door. It successfully created enough space and I just slouched up the edges with a factory paint pen.

Results were decent enough for me and the issue has not came back.

Here is a picture of the results.

I ran into exactly the same panel rub issue. Only on hot days here in Tucson. (There are many of them) Just had it serviced at the Phoenix center and they did a great job of realignment of the fender as well as the hood to correctly align with the moved fender. They are well aware of some cars having tight clearance and get the fix done right.

Yep, same issue right after getting our new T in September. Chelsea SC fixed it and painted same day, let it dry overnight, couldn’t notice it unless you knew exactly where it happened and looked for it.

That’s bold! And it looks like a great result.
