Phone key issues 2023.30

Hi all,

im sure most of you have noticed the downgrade in performance of the phone key with last update.

wanted to call out the following events that happened to me:

1-stepped out of truck with phone on center console and the truck locked with my phone inside. Luckily window was down so I managed to get back in.

2- truck unlocks on approach but then locks just as I grab the door handle pinching fingers underneath (2x in last week)

seriously considering going to Key FOB full time.

anyone else have similar issues?

Have not have either of those happen on 2023.30 nor previously. The locking of the phone inside your car is especially strange and concerning.

My issue with PAAK remains having to wait sometimes (but not always) for it to open as I stand next to the truck. The other problem is that it’s simultaneously too sensitive and will lock/unlock at home so we have it turned off there.

Nope. No change in the 17 months I've had it.

Old Google Pixel 3 XL in a hard case. Have never had any issues. More worried about phone battery dying than anything else. That's why I carry fob in my pocket as a backup, and keycard in wallet as extra backup. ?

6 Pro here. PaaK has left unimpressed for this current iteration. I'm tempted to go back to the keyfob, but I also like not having a physical key in my pocket.

Hopefully, future software updates will help. Though side note, this Pixel and the one I had prior had issues with BT where I had to cycle it on/off to get some BT devices to cooperate.

Not seeing any of the issues described on iPhone 13 Pro max

My wife and I use our iPhones exclusively (used fob maybe twice in 8 months). Never an issue with either iPhone. Hers is the latest, mine is a couple generations back.

iphone 13 pro max: so far so good
Oneplus 11 pro: so far so good, sometimes unlocking is a bit slow
Samsung fold 4: used to be very buggy (PAAK in Rivian and tesla stop working in the very morning). after latest android update, starting working better.

I unpaired my phone and deleted the app and then repaired it and reinstalled the app and it helped.

I had this happen over the weekend. BUT I'm 99% sure I know what happened. I went out to load some stuff in the R1S, and saw that my phone battery was almost dead, so I put it on the charging pad - but I did not make sure it was aligned. I went in the house, and when I came back out a minute later the truck was locked. I always carry a card key, so I unlocked it, and found that my phone was now completely dead. I'm assuming it locked when/because the phone died....

I started using the FOB a while ago because PAAK annoyed me. I feel like the FOB response is worse on 2023.30.0. Have to press unlock button like 3x to get the truck to open as I’m approaching it. Maybe the battery is getting worse (shows up as green in the key menu)

This is the first update that my phone started working consistently (without forcing me to remove it from my pocket and unlock it for the truck to 'see me')!

So, I'm having the opposite experience...

Pixel 6 on the latest OTA.

THAT said, my wife's Pixel 7 loves my truck more than my Pixel 6 does. IF she's around, Thor thinks she's driving 9/10 times. So, we do a little dance on approach where I take the lead until the truck unlocks (not that it's too hard to push a couple of buttons... )

I bought a "Hitch Vault" and put the wristband key inside. https://hitchvault.ca/ I did this in case my phone battery died. This has happened once thus far and this thing saved my life. I was able to use the combo lock and grab the wrist key and gte inside no problem even with my phjone being dead. It's an awesome emergency backup plan when you are not towing something of course.

Thanks for the link! I was looking for one of these a few months ago but nothing was coming up on Amazon. A bit pricey though. I think my own "emergency solution" (to get into the frunk if the battery dies) works nearly as well. ?

Pre update: it was “too” sensitive I.e. truck would unlock when in driveway and I was inside house, 15ft away
Post update: does not unlock unless inside of 3 feet if even. Usually have to force it to wake up from the app. Plus the issues listed in original post..

Maybe Android is the solution ??
