Thanks. But everything I’ve tried has not solved the problem.

I was hoping others had the same issue and could report the solution. I can work with support. Will update on what I learn.

I don’t think this is normal and think they will find an issue with air suspension.
It seems the issues are having are greatly reduced with software updates and Gen 1 and suspension updates in Gen 2.

Let us know the outcome of your service appointment. I wonder if you have a suspension leak that the compressor is having a difficult time dealing with?

I have High, Standard and Low.

I’m in
I leave ride height in normal letting the car manage it. The compressor isn't on that often and I don't notice the porpoising like you stated.
Standard. Have Auto on. Will test.

I Just tried in Standard, Auto off and Firm. It still porpoised.

it like look Ride Height was disabled while I was driving.

I’ll do more test, but the Vikings are playing today.

Is this your first EV?
Are you familiar with OPD?

If the ride is bad, open a ticket and have mobile tech go on a ride with you.

I've noticed about 90-95% of the "issues" posted are either due to unfamiliarity with EVs, not reading the manual, or some other user error.

Do you have concrete roads or asphalt? Here in Colorado we have a ton of concrete with seams. My 2015 Tundra would porpoise like crazy on the concrete. The truck would hit a certain frequency with the suspension and it felt like someone was slowly jiggling me to death.

It actually drove me to sell it. Toyota had not figured it out on the Tundra. Ford Chevy and Dodge had no such issues. There is a test with logs or railroad lumber I think that shows if a ctruck will start doing this.

All vehicles will purpose of they hit bumps at a certain frequency, and the frequency is specific to the vehicle.

Firstly, turn off auto ride height. Try changing dampers first in standard height. If it doesn't work, try low height and try all damper setting.

Best thing to do would be to try another R1S in same conditions. Easier said than done. Good luck!

For my R1T, I rarely have this problem. However, AP low with medium dampers works best to prevent kids from being car sick. Almost drives like a sports sedan.

Agree. All the porpoising complaints were for Gen 1. Everyone seems to agree that Gen 2 R1S fixed the issue.
I'm 3 weeks into Gen 2 R1S ownership after 14 months of Gen 1 R1S ownership, and at least for me, porpoising has been significantly reduced, but perhaps not entirely eliminated.

What I'm careful to distinguish between is true porpoising - a front to back, back to front bouncing motion - versus a more uniform bouncing motion that is still inherent in an air suspension. The former to me has been vastly improved/eliminated.

What's OPD?

This is my first EV. Tesla never appealed to me other than Plaids but purely for performance reasons.

I don’t agree that the Gen 2 fixes the issue.

One Pedal Drive. If you are not modulating the pedal correctly it will feel like it's porpoising when the reality is you are going from accelerating to braking constantly and that will create the same feeling.

Ah! I was confused....I was already used to OPD with manual transmission larger displacement engines in vehicles with significant engine braking. But OPD is one of favorite things with a BEV.

Thanks. I work to drive smoothly. It does it when on cruise control too.

it does have a feeling of go-break.

Thanks for the feedback.

If it does it on cruise, too, then you are correct that it's not due to OPD, or not entirely due to that in any case.

Test driving and finally owning and driving your own streets are vastly different.
These cars purpose, widely known. Solution is get an R1T. As stated, alleviate via height.
IT was a condition for Gen1. I have yet to notice porpoising for our Gen2 R1S after about 7k miles.

If the compressor is running way too much and there is porpoising perhaps there’s a leak in your air suspension or a seal that’s contracting enough that it leaks in the cold.
I suspect there is something up here swell.

I don’t believe Gen 2 has fixed the issue. I have front to back movement in an R1S that is bad enough to cause some car sickness on a regular basis.
That's odd. I don't have that at all.
