Giving a shoutout to the Portland service center. I know it's only anecdotal, but it seems like service center efficiency is getting much better across the country. Yes, it takes a while to get something scheduled, but Portland turned my truck around in 30 hours despite some pretty significant repairs and I wanna give credit where it's due.
I did the multi-point inspection at my last tire rotation to see if there were any issues that needed to be covered under warranty. I have a December 2022 Gen 1 quad R1T so it's about 2.5 years old. I haven't had any issues other than a squeaky suspension at low speeds - until somewhat recently, I learned, this was considered normal and within spec. There are new jounce lines and dampers that greatly improve the issue, and Rivian decided to replace them all when they found a leak in one of my dampers. It must have been pretty small because I never noticed any issue. Nonetheless, Rivian completed a $7,500 repair under warranty without me even needing to ask. They replaced all the dampers with the retrofit parts and replaced all the jounce lines with the updated version.
I've had this appointment scheduled for a couple of months. In the interim, I got a huge rock impact on my windshield that required a full replacement rather than just repair, so that was added to the ticket (out of pocket for the windshield, obviously, at a total cost of $1,764.60 including recalibration). Rivian had no issues with doing so.
If that wasn't good enough, I dropped off my truck at 8:30 on Friday morning. I was given an EV rental through Enterprise and they had a line of Ubers waiting for us outside the SC so we wouldn't have to wait. I was told it should be done in a week, but maybe earlier. Rivian kept me updated through the app and let me know the windshield was done on Friday at about noon. I then got another update around 2:00 on Saturday that my truck was done and I could pick it up. Seriously? Both were already done in just 30 hours!
I tried to get to Enterprise to drop off the rental but they were already closed and that location didn't offer after-hours drop-off. No problem, Rivian said they'd just take the key and Enterprise would come get it when they're open. Rivian didn't need to do that, and I really appreciated it.
Overall, 10/10 experience with the Portland service center. No sitting on the lot for a couple of weeks in queue or anything like that - they got right to it and greatly exceeded all reasonable expectations. This gives me a ton of confidence in the service network going forward as we can see obvious and clear improvements in one of Rivian's weak spots. Kudos to Rivian and the Portland service center.
