I just confirmed with the guide that I’ll have to switch to manual if I want quicker delivery. I’m going to do that next week. I really wanted the powered cover, but I’ll get over that.

That is good to know since I was emailed about switching and did switch to a manual tonneau cover before 10/16/2022.

My guide actually just made the change to manual for me. My window estimate went to "processing" as expected. I then "confirmed" my configuration, so I’m now locked in.

FWIW, I had an auto as part of my configuration. Last week when my configuration locked, either cover option greyed out. I picked up my R1T at the factory today and mine was installed but with a dummy button placed so I couldn't operate it. The other guy's was fully functional which they said was a mistake!

Pickup specialist said all cars in process will have the tonneau installed but not functional. It's not until 2023 when they'll do something more drastic.

He also said they're very close to finishing up their redesign...

Are you sure they aren’t just talking about the rails? That wouldn’t make any sense that the cover itself is fully installed just sitting there.

Our 2-nd R1T came with closed disconnected cover 2 weeks ago.
Our 1-st R1T is just 5 weeks old but it starts to make weird noises upon closing despite the tracks were sprayed with the recommended spray.

Rivian R1T R1S Power Tonneau still configured. Now what? 20221113_035934

100% positive it's there. Both specialists confirmed it's there with a dummy button. They even explained the issues are caused by only one motor being installed that causes torque issues if the panels get off kilter.

Well that happened a lot faster than I thought. I just got a guide and an email to confirm my configuration. However, the Power cover is still selected. I can’t even change it without my guide now. Anyone in the same boat? I setup a meeting with my guide for next week so I should know for sure soon.

Also, what is the typical time to delivery once you lock in your config?
Yep same situation. Guide call at 0800 EST tomorrow, Monday Nov.14. This will be my 1st question about having the PTC still selected. Will post when I find out.

Actually I think it kind of does make sense for now. when They announced they probably had 100s of built or in progress R1Ts with Powered, and decided it was better to install a 10 cent dummy button and disable the future warranty liability. I imagine that’s temporary.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I might be the only person who wasn’’t given the option to de-configure the powered tonneau, only to have the truck show up without the slats but WITH the motor and hardware installed.

Was told to wait until Jan/Feb when a fix might be in place. Going to be an interesting winter.

How do you know the slats aren't in there?

My revised estimate (was 1H 2023) was Jan/February 2023 but my Guide told me that there was no way a working tonneau cover (power) was going to be ready by then.

The power tonneau cover is important enough to me that my Guide gave me the option to place my reservation in a "hold" status until the redesign was in production.

I did not change it in my config and he asked me not to.

Hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

I’d love this option

My truck has been through PD inspection and ready for delivery for almost a week. I haven't had time to go get it yet. When I did my first drive it was already on lot awaiting PD and went to check it out. The power tonneau was jammed crooked up by the bed. I told my guide I would not be accepting it like that and she said wait for PD. Apparently they got it fixed and it has passed all inspections. Guide, CS and Service have all told me that it will be retrofitted with the new design when available, but that conflicts with some other info I've heard.

Bottom line, stick with power, don't change your config, you may actually get it. Worst case you get the truck at the same time and they retrofit later. For reference I'm a 131## VIN. If you see a whitey on 22s in Austin, TX wave hi!

Hmm from the recent Dec Jan thread seemed like those who had it in place were told be their guide to either change it to manual or remove it or put the reservation on hold until the redesign is available again. Maybe in the above instances it was luck of the draw that motor and wiring was left in place.
