Is there an average time it takes from the time you commit to purchase and when Rivian builds the vehicle and you start the 8 step purchasing process?

Look at the delivery thread. There might be updated info. Most people waited years so we are no help on the current situation. Personally you should order from the shop if you want something soon. If time is no issue then custom order.

Ordered from the shop March 18th, picked it up April 2nd. From my experience it depends on where you’re located. I hear people are getting freebies by placing custom orders then the sales team tries to get you to take something in inventory and may start adding freebies or discounts.

leasing seems to be cheapest for some options especially the market with EVs.
When you do get make sure you look over it good. You will find issues to report.

Your situation might be different than ours.

We reserved our R1T in October 2022 and took delivery in May of 2023.

We started our 8-step process on March 21st of 2023 and 6 weeks later we picked it up.

I have read they have halted production on new vehicles until they retool the factory for the refresh build and in anticipation of the start of the R2 production.

You might find one that meets your specs in the availability shop.

I ordered an in inventory R1S/Adventure/Large Battery/21 inch wheels on 4/8 and pick it up tomorrow. Pretty quick, not sure what a custom build would take.

I ordered from the shop inventory on 3/27 took delivery on 3/30.
