If you had your own pucks, could you have given them to DT to use?
Could you yourself have driven your Rivian into the service bay?
DT has been flawless for me. But I myself drive my cars in and prep them for service. Own Teslas , will do exactly the same for my R1S.
They refused to use mine and said they were pros at Rivians and had their own pucks to use. They proceeded to fuck up my truck by not aligning the pucks correctly or using the wrongs ones entirely.

Wow, I am so sorry about your incident. I can think of more than $80,000 reasons why I would not allow anybody else in my R1S ever for this type of service.

Our experience is each DT is not (unfortunately) on the same process and procedure page when it comes to Rivian vehicles. There is an obvious flaw in the corporate training culture. We have customers who bring in our magnetic pucks and DT uses them without hesitation and raves over them compared to what Rivian has provided them, others who will say, we have a specific directive from Rivian and management how to handle the vehicles and we can't use a customer puck.

Rivian here in Denver pushed us to any Discount Tire for our tire repair after a tread face puncture we road side fixed using their liquid repair kit, which worked pretty awesome and I’m totally grateful for the on board air compressor for this. I ended up taking to a Big O Tire who I had started using, in recent years for all our other vehicles, over the nearby DT only due to being able to get in and out much faster. They have historically been great with our Model 3, Polestar and Volvo C40 EV so I kinda though nothing of it when it came to our R1S. However they quickly brought to my attention on how the Rivian needed special pucks and that there was a procedure in putting it in a tire service mode which they gathered all from a quick google search. This was a big education moment for myself and then realized that Rivian has an arrangement with DT and not every tire shop is setup to handle Rivians. I was persistent on fixing the tire there so I instructed them to utilize the jack that came with the spare tire kit to remove and fix the tire and they oriented me on the tire service mode along with assuring me that they already ordered the Rivian magnetic pucks for future which I do as well as well for when I am traveling to prevent any non knowing shops lifting the vehicle without them.

I can totally see the inconsistency from shop to shop when it comes to tires, I too get nervous at oil changes or other service centers as I’ve ran into issues in the past. Most notably at a Toyota dealership. However, I am truly grateful for how the Big O in Arvada CO handled this situation so cautiously and professionally while also confidently pitching their ability to setting themselves up to handle Rivians as they assured me that though I was their first their sure to be seeing more of them soon enough.

You expect them to be working over the weekend?
No need to be a Discount Tire appologist. The Disclunt tire by me is also open in the weekends and many other vendors here on RFs are active on this forum on the weekends.

Logical, @jebinc, and I know it's frustrating to have been mistreated without immediate recourse, but I want to recognize the very positive things about Discount Tire's forum presence.

Some vendors participate 7 days a week, and have full authority to resolve anything on their own say-so. Those are generally very small shops -- nothing like the very large scale of Discount Tire

The @Discount Tire representative on this forum generally responds within one WORKING day and seems to have authority to escalate most complaints within the company.

I suspect this is one person (or a small number of people) doing this "on the clock" with the company's blessing. Even though it's frustrating to wait, other users report @Discount Tire "makes it right" as soon as they can.

Thanks and best wishes!

I agree that @Discount Tire has been more active than nearly any other vendor, but the glaring disparity in service between locations keeps growing. It's also not unreasonable to expect a chain with over 1100 locations, 28,000 employees, and nearly $9 billion in revenue could staff customer service 7 days a week.

I have had questionable results at the Carson City, NV store. First time in was when I purhased snow tires. I had an appointment and, once I got there, didn’t really pay much attention. I noticed, about a mile or so after leaving the store, that my tire pressure indicators were showing a range from about 42psi to 53psi. I thought that was odd. I called them and was told the sensors would adjust after a short drive. Wrong! 15 miles later, when I got home, I checked with a digital guage. The 42-53 was accurate. Seriously?! This is a tire store. It’s their damn business. How does this happen? How many people have been sent off with grossly under or over inflated tires and those people never knew it? Hey, DT - you got an “F” on this one.

A month or so ago, I scheduled an appointment to have the snow tires removed. When I showed up at my appointed time, I was told there would be about a hour and forty-five minute wait before they could get to it, because they had gotten ‘very busy that day’. But, wait a minute, what happened with my damn appointment, that I have had for 2 weeks? Eventually, I was about to leave when they got me in (They must have been reading my mind). They sent a kid out to get my R1T and he didn’t even know how to drive it. What the heck? In the shop area, the music was playing so loud that I almost had to yell to communicate to the staff about my car. It was more like a rave than a professional business. It was crazy. I don’t even know how anyone could work in that environment. Definitely, not confidence inspiring! When I got home, one of the valve caps was missing. Another “F” for DT.

Seriously - sending customers off with grossly improperly inflated tires and missing valve caps?! If they had turned the FN music down, maybe they could have concentrated on the job at hand a little better. I definitely lost confidence in this Discount Tire shop and will be looking elsewhere for future work. If you do use this shop, I would pay very close attention to the work being done.
We apologize for your recent experience. We would like to look further in to this to make sure you're taken care of. Hope you don't mind us sending a DM.

No worries! I'm a huge Discount tire fan as well. They recently mounted and road forced balanced my Model S Plaid's wheels and tires from Signature, without issue. I use the Renton/Tukwila, WA location.

No issues with DT here in MN either. I scheduled a rotation and went in. They started setting things up and realized their jack pucks were damaged and needed a new set, didn't want to damage the vehicle so they rescheduled for a few days later when they got replacement parts and got the job done. Will never not go to a DT for this sort of thing.
