Qmerit Rivian Charger Install estimates

Does anyone know if this is a reasonable amount to charge to install the Rivian charger? My breaker panel is on an exterior wall way on the other side of the house and they are going up into the attic and routing it to the garage. Any thoughts or advice appreciated for a novice.

Rework panel to create breaker locatoin for 2 ple 50 amp breaker $400
Permit fee $150
Total $2,050

I did mine through Qmerit and was very happy with the experience. Professional and efficient. I bought my charger direct from Rivian (It showed-up about a week befor my R1S). I did have almost a 150’ run of cable so they charged me the extended wiring / conduit run. I had a 60 AMP breaker available on my circuit breaker - so I didn’t have to have that installed.

My QMerit quotes were considerably higher (~$500-1000) than going direct. I would contact one or two on your own and get quotes as a sanity check.

I paid just over $2400 ($800 being the Rivian charger cost) to have mine installed in Austin, TX.

Exterior wall panel, opposite side of the house from the garage. 60A breaker.
The charger was installed on the furthest wall away from panel.

The cost of the installation was $1600, super happy with it.

I think it's a great deal, if in fact they're routing through your attic and onto the other side of the house.

I've seen people local to me quoted over $5k if they had to route beyond the area the breaker box was in.

FWIW: I did it myself with an EEs help and it still cost me ~$300 in materials (and I installed within 12 feet of my breaker box). I did NOT have to rework the panel box either. With the cost of copper, a large part of your Charger install cost is going to be that cable, for sure.

I would get several quotes. Qmerit quoted $5000 for install not including a service upgradewhich Ineeded. . Another local outfit initially wanted $13000 wanting to completely upgrade the service panel. When I balked on that they said they could just add a sub panel with a $5000 cost. I went with another electrician who put in the charger and sub panel for $1300.

For those north of LA / LA Area Zabin Electric just did a great job on an install and was super reasonable on price. Ran conduit inside garage to opposite wall. Had everything completed in a few hours and stuck around to make sure sync, charging and all worked.

It's really not rocket science for a simple install, as simple as they get. Pull a homeowners permit (+$200) if you're worried about it. Building the experimental aircraft was far far more complicated. Wiring the shop far more complicated.

I just purchased a Tesla universal wall connector with both NACS and J1772 built in for $595 plus $350 labor to have it hard wired to my breaker panel.
