I purchased a Large+ at the end of August last year. I was really happy when I got it because it was actually letting me use the whole max pack for about a month. I would drive for well over an hour at 100% charge. Unfortunately they fixed that bug.

There are a few advantages: you can leave it at 100% for any last minute long trips, it will actually stay at 100% for the first 5-10 miles of your drive so you get a bit extra mileage, my last charging session shows I added 112 KWH from 4% SOC on the Rivian app.

I have the 20 inch all terrain tires and probably average 80-85 on the highway with an average efficiency of about 2.3 miles per KWH.

I believe my range showed 298 miles when new and now shows 288.

If you have the opportunity I would definitely pick one up.

Just the kind of insight I was hoping to get. Thank you!

Oh, one more sort-of a downside. As we approach 100% SoC, our Regen is diminished. Yet for the Large+, we’re still ~20kWh from a true “100%”, so why diminish the regen?

@jrothman did you ever get the one you found?

On my max pack my regen starts diminishing at around 80% and keeps decreasing from there. (This is also temperature dependent. If the battery temp is below about 50F this effect is amplified)

Yeah I pretty regularly see the message warning about reduced regen above 90% on my Large+, which is the equivalent of 77% on your Max. Regen is virtually non-existent above about 95% on mine, which would be 81% on yours. I’d expect that drastic reduction on a true Large pack, though. is regen nearly non-existent at 81% for you? Or just a bit reduced?

I reduced at 81% for sure. But DEFINITELY still existent. I'd say it gets pretty non existent when I get closer to 90

Thanks for checking in! I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I had to hold off on account of my Gen 1 getting some service. When that's wrapped up, I'm pretty sure I'll trade it in.

Thanks for insights re: regen and start of charge!

I have a large+ 2025 R1T Dual also. I charge it to 100% often with no adverse affects. In the winter here in Michigan that is a definite advantage to eek out some more range. As others mentioned, when I charge to 100% I can drive 10 to 20 miles while the display reports 100%. Efficiency seems quite good for a truck (compared to my model 3) but the large non plus should be "a little" more efficient since it is lighter. Lighter is beneficial everywhere (stopping distances, acceleration, tire wear, cornering), so there is a slight trade off. If they don't allow more power to the motors with a large+ than a large, the large+ will be slower accelerating. Probably not a whole lot, but some.

I am also not sure if the software for large+ is completely sorted out. At 100% I get a message that regen is limited but I don't see any ACTUAL difference in regen performance. Also I'm not convinced that the large+ gets the same low state of charge high speed charging rate as the max pack, although it should. Or maybe, it just that the charge rate isn't that great for all packs. One would think a 140kwh battery would charge much faster than my model 3s 73kwh pack, but it doesn't.
