Hey folks,

I'm a new member and potentially about to become an owner. I've found my config be it a DM(P) Max pack and had a few questions about the R1S. If possible some tips and information would be great in order to help me make my decision.

  • Does the R1S rear seats fold up with the storage cubby under like the R1T does?
  • Are there any small changes for the 2024 model that may not be documented on their site but owners may have noticed?
  • Is there any checklist of things to go over with before accepting delivery?
I'm not so worried about the potential refresh coming unless someone has hard evidence that changes coming won't be made available for a 24 as it relates to driver+ or battery performance drastically

  1. Rear seats have storage for smaller items and then spare tire under that.
  2. Aside from new package which will be lower than current, think old explorer package, there are a few tweaks and some new wheel options coming. Nothing major like heat pump that any of us have heard about.
  3. Panel gaps, overall paint. One user was missing the insert in a door handle. My 23 R1S feels more solid in front end than my 22 R1T, more suspension noise in truck but early unit.
  4. Take time to go over vehicle before you leave property to avoid the oh crap moment when you get home. Otherwise congratulations on taking the plunge into one for the coolest vehicles from a great company.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw a video where the middle row seats or the rear seats of the R1T just folded up and had storage right below. Curious if the r1s does this as well or maybe that's what I saw in the video to begin with.

If you can wait for a few months to see what the R2 is like, that would give you something else to consider and be even more confused.

R1S 2nd row seats do NOT have under seat storage. I was also surprised to learn the second row middle arm rest does NOT have storage either like the R1T.

1. Yeah R1S does not have any under-seat storage (and it's not that easy to find this out).

2. No idea, but good question because Rivian does change things like two 12V batteries -> one plus a capacitor, two horns -> one, probably others.

3. Honestly I wouldn't be big on the checklist because if anything minor is wrong, you're still going to take it home and make a service appointment anyway, so just make sure it's functional and see if issues come up once you start using it. 2cents

Cool. The bin storage under the second row seats would have been nice but surely not a deal breaker. Plenty of other spaces to put stuff.

I'll scower the forums to see if I can find a locking drawer to replace the speaker.

Worst part of rivian ownership is dreaming about damaging it. I accidentally scraped some paint off when I made too tight a turn in a small parking area. Woke up in a cold sweat.

If you see an R1S in a parking lot while you're out, park near it (but not too close) and see if you catch the owner - unless we're in a hurry for some reason, most of us are proud to take the time for a 5-10 minute "show and tell" about the car.

ha - I did that this morning. A tesla 3 owner came over to chat as I parked. 10 mins later, he was heading home and thinking of leasing an R1S :)
