Quick note on Rivian body repairs.

My shop ordered all the parts and did not charge me anything till I picked it up.
The first body side got damaged in shipping that they did not notice till I dropped off my truck. I just went and picked it back up till the second replacement body side came in. The lead times were pretty normal. They took 10 days to do the repair exactly as quoted. I am sorry you're having problems. I just wanted to show that sometimes it goes as normal as possible. The only issues were there was only 1 body shop and it was pretty pricey compared to the same damage on another vehicle. It was not, however the insane prices that it used to be.

Rivian has the same kind of "parts department" as Tesla. The body shop orders the parts directly from the factory. And Tesla is no faster then Rivian, Rivian is actually faster in delivering the parts to the bodyshop. I order them everyday. The service centers do stock some parts but they are only so big and would only stock very popular parts. A trim piece is not a very popular part. Every car made today is not meant to be taken apart and put back together. Rivian is no better or worse then other car makers as far as parts being broken during disassembly. It happens. Everything is plastic these days and the "tabs" on the parts holding them onto the car are very fragile. The reason shops are hesitant on the parts ordering is because once the shop buys it, Rivian makes it very difficult to return it. Tesla is the same. So shops end up with parts laying around everywhere. As far as ordering everything before you drop off, as soon as the vehicle is taken apart they are going to need to order something else 80% of the time. The bottom line is if it is a common part, door. fender, bumper, the shop is going to get it pretty quick. If it's something not very common, interior part, inner structure piece, it's probably going to take longer. These new car companies just don't have the supply chain structures that the legacy makers do. Toyota, GM, Honda, Ford, I'll get the parts in 2 days.

**update**

What a nightmare this minor damage has become. Car was sitting for weeks because of a trim piece that Rivian didn't have available. Ran out of insurance rental coverage and already paid about $500 out of pocket, so we didn't end up with a smart car as a rental. Didn't get to take our Rivian on planned trip to Mammoth, which sucked, because I switched over to the ATs and bought kayak /sup racks for this trip. R1S was promised on the day after we left, but ofcourse, one week later and already back from our trip and new problems have come up.

Bodyshop said they completed the car and we're washing it and it had to go through "QC" *whatever that means.. This was at 8:30 this morning, and it was strange that he wouldn't commit to letting me pick it up. I told them I'm driving back from Mammoth and I can divert my drive to pick it up on the way home. Of course I call them about 100 miles left in my drive and he says he ran DTCs as part of the "QC" process and they got an error code on the door latch on the door they worked on. Also, after they tried to clear ot, the door would no longer unlock. So here we are, still no R1S since June 13th. They now have take to Rivian to unfook it.

I forgot to mention these are just big computers that we are all driving. Unfortunately the IT department has to get involved every once in awhile.
