I thought it is good to have one thread dedicated to this so new recipients of R1 can use the experience of trailblazers to check their ride upon delivery. Although I have no doubt Rivian has it's own database, this could also serve as a reference for QC folks in Rivian. The thread is not meant to be used to bash the product we all love. Just a reference point to help each other and the company. So if you have discovered an issue with your new Rivian post it here and I will try to consolidate in the original post. If it is not your own experience you are sharing, please post a link to the original post you are referencing.

The list is not comprehensive. Only some of the items I have come across. Please add your issues to the thread. Especially if it is different than what you see here.

Another place to look for items to check at delivery:

Flaws and failures:

1 - Window issues; loose glass and slow/stopping windows when using auto up/down on some or all windows. Window seals not installed correctly. No sound. R1T rear window plastic
2 - Audio : FM has huge amounts of static noise even with strong local stations. Audio cuts off or can only hear base.
3 - Fronk - Problem opening.
4 - Headliner isn’t fully attached on driver side near the windshield.
5 - Rear light bar does not work at all or randomly flashes for others.
6 - Tonneau cover rough operation and clunking sound. Rubber gasket issues.
7 - Splotches and drip marks on back window that does not come off.
8 - Driver side front brake caliper scratched
9 - Scratches and scuffs on different areas.
10 - Dents in various spots (Hood front left and front right about 1” , Passenger side roof edge above leading and trailing sides of b-pillar, Driver side rear fender almost dead center above wheel well on flat surface above plastic wheel arch, crease on Gloss black a-pillar about 1/4” from bottom on both left and right)

11 - Missing wrist band
12 - Wind noise - from passenger front window/door, defective quarter vent window seals, top of the left and right windshield starts at about 45 mph - Solution 1
13 - Panel Alignment and fitting issues ( door, hood, fender, tailgate, trim on the bottom of the doors, Charging door, roof misalignment ), Rattles & Squeaks
14 - screw in one of tires
15 - Gasket on back of the tonneau cover is too short on one side leaving a hole into the bed
16 - Jack point adapter broke while removing tire
17 - Check air compressor operation.
18 - Paint quality - orange peeling , tiger stripes
19 - Missing pieces (Trim behind door handle)
20 - Installation issues ( weatherstripping is smushed ). Loose trim pieces behind rear seat. Rattles & Squeaks.
21 - Passive Proximity Sensor locks and unlocks the car frequently (This may not be an issue with your R1 but a design issue)
22 - Gear Guard is enabled but does not record.
23 - Panel Gaps; R1T ( on the rear passenger side at the tailgate )
24 - Gear Tunnel: The touch screen button only partially unlocks the door. It happens with the external button as well but second press will open it.
25 - Ambient Lighting; Left side dash of steering wheel does not work.
26 - Taillights blinking randomly
27 - message; “critical battery issue, service vehicle immediately“. HV connector was stuck open.
28 - Suspension: 1 - message; “service suspension system soon”. Comfort valve was soft and disconnected. 2 - suspensions seem to be leaking, message: “Ride height change not possible due to overheated air compressor” Compressor overheat due to hole in “air bag”. Squeaky Suspension, clunky at low speed when hitting bumps
29 - bad left turn signal
30 - Front drive unit failed. Another case.
31 - Audible Interference on FM channels with good signal (may be resolved by turning off HD Radio mode)
32 - Wristband key not operating.
33 - Camp speaker - Paired to the truck but won't connect. Does not Charge.
36 - Power tonneau segments are not laying flat when closed.
38 - False booty detection on passenger seat keeps R1T awake and triggers seat belt alarm. It may have been caused by OTA update.
39 - Driving on conserve mode (lowest suspension setting) may damage 20” AT tires.
40 - Fluid leak - Mechanical break failed, Drive lube leak (Brake fluid is Red, Drive lube is Yellow-Brown, Hydraulic dampener fluid is Blue)
- Coolant of engines and battery is Blue
41 - Wheels Alignment problem, some more here.
42 - adaptive cruise control randomly is unavailable
43 - one side gear tunnel door open much slower than other.
44 - Hood flutter issue - The fix is additional adhesive between the hood panel and frame
45 - Tailgate plastic trim (covers the top of the tailgate) detaches when sliding load out of the bed.
46 - Cruise Control
48 - Wiper goes off once when R1T goes on drive.
50 - Missing fasteners
51 - System fault detected - R1T is dead
53 - Drive mode - Change is not available.
54 - AC - Noise, Cold air.
55 - Locked camp speaker
56 - Front end won’t lower to replace the tire (driving it a bit fixed it).
57 - Misaligned steering wheel
59 - Hood Open Warning. Another one.
61 - CCS charging issue.
62 - Auto hold problem
63 - Vehicle going to limp mode
64 - Check for cracked roof glass.
65 - Battery - Main pack error; Battery Issue

Design issues:

34 - Driver+ needs a good LTE cellular signal to engage
35 - Smartphone as a key keeps locking and unlocking the car.
37 - Bed is not dust proof.
47 - Parasitic loss of power when idle from 5 KWh/day to 13 KWh/day (OTA has reduced the loss to 3.3 KWh/day)
49 - Suspension height keeps changing automatically when in conserve mode. It should remain the same until user changes selection.
52 - There is no manual way to disable the break lock when there is a system fault. If turtle mode does not function the vehicle can not be pushed or pulled out of the way in emergency with breaks locked.
58 - Condensation on windshield
60 - Go pedal may have weak points.

I have these weird splotches and drip marks on my back window. Look like hard water stains, but they do not come off with any cleaner I have tried. Requested a service appointment. Will report back when I hear anything. Everything else I have checked looks pretty solid.

Here's my list:

1. Charge port door not flush in front (will ask for adjustment)

2. Driver side front brake caliper scratched (will ask for touch up)

3. Hood front left and front right about 1” in from corners is ‘dents’ visible due to light reflection. Same imperfection on both sides makes me think machining or manufacturing problem. Paint is not scratched or flawed. (will report but will not ask for repair)

4. Passenger side roof edge above leading and trailing sides of b-pillar are ‘dents’ that can only be seen with correct lighting and angle. Again assuming manufacturing or machine issue. Paint again is not scratched or flawed. (Will report but not ask for repair)

5. Driver side rear fender almost dead center above wheel well on flat surface above plastic wheel arch two ‘dens’ about 4” apart and symmetrical. Again, no paint issues. (Will report but not ask for repair)

6. Gloss black a-pillar about 1/4” from bottom on both left and right there is a crease that can be seen. All under the paint so again believe it’s a manufacturing or production problem. (Will report but not ask for repair)

7. Missing wrist band (expected and delivery guide requested me to report and submit service request)

8. Wind noise from passenger front window (will submit service request for repair)

  1. Poorly aligned trim on the bottom of the doors, both sides but worse on drivers side
  2. I had a screw in one of my tires, not a QC issue but bad luck I guess, but still waiting to get my tire/wheel back
  3. Driver door alignment
  4. Gasket on back of the tonneau cover is too short on one side leaving a hole into the bed
  5. Jack point adapter broke while removing tire with the screw in it
  6. Charging door alignment
  7. Problem with my air compressor (could be user error but doesn’t function like similar compressors I have)
  8. Gear guard not working, it was working initially but not any longer??
  9. No wristband here either, in fact 10 days in still don’t have any of my accessories either.

This is a great thread for someone who is patiently awaiting their delivery. I am hopeful they work some of these things out.
These lists are both all for individual trucks? Or is the first list a compilation of all that has been reported on the forum so far?
I feel it is reasonable to have a few of these things pop up, but certainly not all of them. I hope these get these issues fixed quick for the OPs. Thanks for starting this list!

This is a compilation of a few posts I have seen. I am sure it is not all that has been posted on the forum so if you see an issue in a post that is not included, please share the issue and the link to original post and I will make sure to add it. I am sure some of these will be addressed by Rivian and some won't because they will always have new employees that could miss something. So it is good for new owners to know what to look for. I was hesitant to start the thread because I am sure some Tesla fan boy at some point will abuse it for their Youtube channel but I think benefit of it for us and ultimately for Rivian, is worth it. Even with all of what is listed here, I am blown away by the quality of the one I saw in person.

My R1T has one defect, that's the wind noise because of defective quarter vent window seals. There's a factory updated part being installed next week.

Trouble Ticket Stuff:
  1. USB-C drive backup of Gear Guard didn't work in 2022.07 now works with 2022.11.02
  2. Audible Interference on FM channels with good signal (may be resolved by turning off HD Radio mode)
  3. Power tonneau segments are not laying flat when closed. Tonneau seems to keep out rain and snow, but the bed is full of dust I assume getting in somewhere from underneath … the bed needs dust seals, but I assume that's a design flaw, not a production defect.
  4. Wristband key not operating.
  5. Camp speaker is paired to the truck but won't connect.
Gripes:
  • Arrived with 40+ miles on the odometer … that's a lot of QA miles and shuffling around for a new vehicle.
  • VIN build month was months before delivery month
  • The delivery "guide" is patently useless.
Known "stuff":
  • No mats, spare wheel, racks or other tchotchkes that some have received (I don't know what's meant to be included.)
  • Driver+ needs a good LTE cellular signal to engage on any given stretch of road. The truck should cache a 100 mile radius so it doesn't black out then update when it has signal. Driver+ needs to come up to be at least as good as Autopilot, especially for secondary roads and highways, not just "ramp to ramp" on freeways.
Local service center people are very good – once you get your first service visit scheduled, problems get addressed. Paint and panel gaps are flawless … delivery process introduced unwelcome swirl marks … I expect to be the one who makes those swirl marks!

p.s. I'd suggest editing the original post to use a numbered list then people can reply to this thread with the number of each problem they've experienced with their vehicle.

  1. Jack point adapter broke while removing tire with the screw in it
That one got my attention. Was this as potentially dangerous as my imagination is telling me it could be?

Is there a gasket/seal around the tailgate? It's very possible dust could enter while driving via that route.

I'd be surprised if there was any design criteria to prevent dust entry. It's cautioned that it is not water tight, so dust can follow the same path. At driving speeds there are pressure zones on top of the tonneau that could be "pushing" dust in. I would expect they might have a design goal to provide some passive ventilation for heat reduction in the bed, which would also preclude dust control. My Avalanche has four "ports" in the floor of the bed that allow water and air to pass through.

Will do.

I was thinking to wait to get enough of them so I can reorganize and categorize them in a way that makes more sense (mechanical, software,…). I am open to suggestions on that.

True, "all" pickups have this problem. The various tonneau and cap / topper / camper vendors provide their own solution so the bed doesn't fill with dust literally sucked in at speed. That Rivian puts it in the owner's manual as a "yeah, we did a half-arsed job" doesn't negate the flaw.
Anyway, the fault I'm reporting is the way some R1Ts have the tonneau laying flat and smooth, others looking like shiplap or fence palings … so mine is the latter and needs to be rectified.

Yeah, it could have been quite bad. In the end it was user error on my (our) part. If you fully read the instructions it says not to use other jacks.

I did have a chat with the engineer at Rivian who designed that part, sounds like they are working to add instructions for using a floor jack at some point in the future.

Glad nothing happened and everyone is ok. I’ve met too many people injured in jack accidents :(

That kinda weight in an off-road situation needs a super robust solution.

Definitely. I can’t imagine trying to hoist that beast on any type of soft ground.
