Heard through a solid source that a top-of-the-line, upgraded “Ascent” model will be introduced in 2024. No word on exactly what upgrades, but word is that the dual-motors are able to put out over 1000 hp… The source suggested that there will be some cosmetic upgrades as well as some work done to improve aerodynamics. The source also said that the front wheels were coming off the ground during “launch”, as it was so powerful and they’re making adjustments to mitigate that. Crazy.

How is it going to "Ascent" now?

My source said they saw blacked out chrome and blacked out emblems. No real word whether they were going to production, but they were in the studio.

Seems like an odd naming convention since “Ascent” seems like a trim level name like “Adventure”, but thus far trim levels have been separate from drivetrain.

Also, a 1000+hp dual motor, if that’s even possible, puts the quad in an odd position in the lineup.

Ever since they started talking about the dual motor I've assumed they were planning to phase out the quad once they finished up their purchase contracts with Bosch and hammered out all the details on the Enduro motors. Quad motor is fun but it introduces a ton of engineering issues that are already solved with differentials, and it's just as easy to get 1,000HP out of two motors as it is four - only if you're aiming for absolute bonkers power in the 2,000HP range do you really need four motors.

If this is true it's just one more nail in the quad motor's coffin imo.

I thought April Fools was 4/1, not 10/16!!

This whole thing sounds like its just made up.

The only way the Enduro motor setup can exceed 1000hp is by making it a trip-motor, which is doable of course. To increase the dual setup to above 1000hp requires 51% increase on the top of Performance Dual Motor setup - no likely and Rivian wouldn't invest in such a marginal configuration for essentially a new motor.

Keep in mind that the Enduro is much bigger than the Bosche unit. R1 would require a completely reconfiguration to the entire front and rear motor layout to make this happen too. It will impact internal layout as the result of that too.

The thing that made me say BS, is the font wheel coming off at launch. There are two problems with that statement.
1) CG location is just above the axle line making the front wheel come off the ground due to weight transfer is extremely unlikely, even with over 1000hp.

2) Coefficient of adhesion for the tires would have to be so much greater than any street tires as well as any drag tire that would fit within the wheel well to lift roughly 3500 lbs (assuming 50/50 F/R weight distribution) off the ground. it would simply spin the tires.

Your source may be very credible as you say, but he/she could be just pulling your leg....

I thought I read that might take the in house motors and make them a quad/triple set up.

That would make sense. Haven't they always talked about a "top line" R1 truck coming at some point.
