I also have original pricing. My only other thought is that I also provided my Delaware vacation home address in addition to my Pennsylvania address - I would take delivery close to either location. Not sure if that enters into it at all. And I have not changed my config in 6 months or more. I'm beginning to think they have been in the past and will continue to delay people who change their config, regardless of their order date. "No soup for you!"
Thanks for the info. I only have my PA address so maybe your DE address makes a difference.
In all my time, I have only changed my config 2x...once from LAS to Blue, and then vice versa. I did that last change in September.
Im curious, when you clicked on the link in the Rivian email, did you have to select everything in your config again or did it take you straight to your delivery estimate? The link actually took me to the selecting options of the config so I just chose my original configuration.

It took me directly to the delivery estimate.

(*) "effectively cancelled" (no Max Pack.)
(*) "who knows?"

I'll have to contact Rivian / the guide and see what's up. Given their answer for the last year has been completely unreliable and changed month to month, who knows?

This is the first time I'm really annoyed and disappointed. The noise from Rivian for a few months has been "we're getting our act together" (despite some concerns like obstacles to the Georgia factory, the shift to Bosch motors long term, numerous features deleted and cancelled) and now they quietly "Friday after the markets are closed" send a fail bomb of an update to "configurations."

This looks like a tactic to delay building the pre-orders to a time when the market average price will have fallen back to pre-order "promised" prices (or at least the cost of production and the profitability of selling cars at msrp today has been brought into line.)

I fear Rivian is following Tesla too closely and becoming another "we'll call you, don't call us" black box corporation with quiet-quit staffers who know how they have to sound, but don't do what they know they have to do.

I think people just need to relax and realize that Rivian is doing the best they can. No one has the internal information from Rivian and frankly altough they filled entitled to it, really are not. There are so many conspiracy theorist out there just making stuff up it is crazy.

I have never changed my config since the day the configurator went live. I got bumped from October/December to February/March. Second time I was a month into my window when I got bumped (end of June and end of October).

Is it disappointing? Yes. Is it personal? No. Does it really make a difference in my life? No.

If you need a car now, go buy one that is readily available. If you do not need one just wait, eventually your number will come up.

I have no idea how so many people, if they really felt what they are spewing, would stay in line to spend 80+k on a vehicle.

You have a delivery window in 2023, correct? I never changed my configuration until I was forced to convert from Explore trim. I ordered at around the same time as you (early 2021). I am still not sure how I got pushed all the way back to 2024.

Original delivery was 4Q22, then 1H23, and now April-June 23.

How far are you from a Service Center?

The other consideration some have discussed is that they schedule X deliveries per day at each service center, and orders get scheduled and pushed out based on delivery "load" at the SC. Dunno, there does seem to be some randomness to how they are prioritizing deliveries....

My situation is pretty similar with ordering and getting bumped. I agree with you that it shouldn't move the needle in anyone's life if you get your car a few months later. I am however, very disappointed in the way Rivian has communicated to the pre-order holders. I did the EV launch with Nissan 12 years ago and their communication was excellent. It is ridiculous in my view, that a decade later Rivian has come so short of what Nissan did back then.

I am about 1 hour (70 miles) from the closest SC. Since I originally ordered Explore, my initial window was 1H23 when Rivian decided to prioritize Adventure deliveries. I probably would have gotten a late 2022 estimate (like you perhaps) had I ordered Adventure all along. After reading reports such as yours, I just don't understand how I got bumped to 2024. Even with prioritizing R1T deliveries for 2023, I should still have a window during 2H23.

Good thread. I read all the way through just to see if anyone noted that they're still on track for R1S delivery this year. I didn't see any. I received the bump from Oct-Dec to Jan-Feb. Sept 2020 order, thankful to have been able to snag the LE. GW/BM, changed to BM back when the Ocean Coast delay was announced in April.

I haven't seen too many Jan-Feb delivery windows, so maybe that means mine is scheduled to be produced in December and shipped to Orlando. Tony Caravano, if you're reading this, I'd be happy to fly out to Normal late December and drive it home... (a guaranteed $7500 vs. a maybe $7500 tax credit can easily pay for a flight and a couple of EA Walmart stops!)

I am wondering if original Explore reservation holders are being penalized and shoveled to the back of the line. I ordered in early 2021 and my original estimate was 1H23. Now, it's 2024 (no Jan-Dec)!

I quickly skimmed through about the first 15 pages of the massive thread on new estimates people are reporting and I have seen preorders made after mine with earlier window.

My biggest concern is how a delivery in 2024 would affect BPA for the tax credit. I know it's not even guaranteed for delivery in 2023 and I am not sure if it would cover 2024.

GR
My R1S moved exactly in the same way. It's pretty clear to me that some supply shortage/combination of features pushes R1S reservation holders all the way to 2024 regardless of the order date.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the ocean coast + dark ash interior change I was forced into. Rivian probably doesn't have any of the newer parts/ options in stock until 1H23 next year; same with the luxury vinyl dash options. With any new part, there's always a design, testing, tooling, and manufacturing ramp up to take into consideration. This takes months! I wouldn't expect to see any of the newer options until at least 2024 (including R1T bed covers). Rivian is likely concentrating heavily on configurations they have inventory for so they don't slow/shut down the production line. The other variable here is the Amazon truck. They will prioritize them first every time when it comes to supplier negotiations/ orders since they are on the hook with Amazon.

What is clear to me is that Rivian is prioritizing the Amazon/ R1T when it comes to part supplies and hence delivery dates. Probably lots more margin in both of those since they are finally coming through the learning curve. It will be 8-12 months on the R1S before they start making any real quantity.

Have any of you heard of someone getting a vehicle with a newer option installed. Here are my choices if any of you are 2024 now with similar choices. Let me know what I need to change if you happen to have a mid-late 2021 order date and happen to be getting one sooner!

Also, I took the opportunity to reconfigure with the ocean coast light wood shortage to get my R1S under $80k so it would qualify for the tax credit. Who knows if that will even be available when I actually get the #$%^ thing in 2025.

I ordered my R1S 3 hours after pre-orders opened, and they just pushed me out to July-Sept 2023. I've had a guide assigned for a year, now. I live 17 miles from a operating service center. I have no idea WTF Rivian is up to, but I couldn't care less at this point. I am just worn out. I will literally have retired by the time this ^&!$#@ SUV shows up, and I think Rivian is desperately hoping people like me will shit-can their $75k locked-in reservation because these cars are costing them a lot more than what they're getting from us. Just wait until next year, Rivian, when they cost $10-20k more. If they keep stringing us along a year-at-a-time, eventually we'll dump them, right?

We probably need a new poll asking who will be dumping their LE reservation in light of this latest delay...
I share your sentiment. I also would add that it feels like we're being strung along 6 months at a time, rather than just saying that delivery is years out. Had I know how far out delivery would be when I ordered, I almost certainly would have bought another vehicle to replace our existing SUV while we wait. Instead, we keep deciding to just hold on as our delivery window is coming up.....then pushed out further.

They gave me the "Processing" response, and said it was because there is not a SC in my area.
There is one in Atlanta, and I live 2 hours from Atlanta in upstate South Carolina.
This is a totally lame response, as several R1T's have been delivered in South Carolina, from the
Atlanta SC.
So how can the SC be an issue for R1S's, but not for R1T's? I have asked for a response, but I'm not holding my breath for a plausible explanation of this.
