R1S Gen 2 - Advice on Managing Proximity Locking

Hi all - I just picked up my new R1S and although I’ve read the manual, I’m looking for a bit of advice on using proximity locking.

Please can you help on what to do in the following scenarios? I have proximity locking at Home set to Lock Only, to stop the car unlocking any time I walk near.

However…

1) I often stay at an apartment away from home where I park outside. The car is often unlocked when I look outside, and sometimes I hear it chirp while it locks and unlocks. How do I prevent that? See picture of the car outside, unlocked when I got up this morning.

2) I have had intermittent results if my mrs (who is an authorised phone key) leaves her phone in the car while we do sports.
3) Is there a way to have a ’part proximity’ locking that works more like a normal keyless car? IE: Phone in pocket, but you have to touch the door handle to lock/unlock?

At the moment it makes me wish for old fashioned keyless entry!

Your only option is to not use Proximity Locking by disabling it in the vehicle or turning off Bluetooth on your devices.

It is one of the behaviors that thus far cannot be changed at a more granular level

What are people’s experiences with this from the manual? It *LOOKS* like what I want, but I can’t seem to get it to work. The handle doesn’t seem to have much of a ‘press’, but I’ve tried just a touch, a touch-and-hold, and a press. Proximity locking is on Lock Only (at Home)

Not sure its much of a press; probably more like a touch on the indentation part. If its anything like my Volvo, that had a similar behavior where if you had the keyfob with you, you could just touch on the indentation to lock and unlock. Could be a short delay (like 1 second) before it registers. Haven't tried this on my R1S but I might as I do prefer that behavior.

What I've resorted to is just closing the Rivian App on my phone so that it doesnt trigger the lock/unlock eveytime I walk by it at home. Have you tried that?

yes closing the app will also work.

Not on Android if background permissions are on. I close my app all the time but PaaK still works fine.

You can also tap your phone to that part of the handle and this works for me, though it does require one to take the phone out of your pocket. @mpshizzle mentioned this in a thread and it works for me every time! The button press on the handle doesn't seem to work well for me unless I take my phone out to tap it. I also leave the proximity on lock only at home.

This works on my gen2 R1S. It's not even a press as much as it's just putting your fingers, hand, wrist, etc on that spot. I've tested this many times. At home, proximity off at home, phone in pocket, touch fingers, palm, wrist, etc on that spot and within a second or two it unlocks. Seems to even work just touching my sleeve to that area.

Could you just park a little farther away at your girlfriend's apartment? Presumably the wife's phone won't be an issue there.

Now I need to know if I can use this on my gen 1. I turned off proximity unlock at home because I do things outside near the truck all the time, for hours at a time. It got super annoying to have my BT and Wifi hijacked constantly. But it's annoying to have to get the phone and do it manually all the time too.

With my g2 R1T (at home, with auto unlocking off) I have had success with lightly touching my iPhone/finger to the handle, although it seems a bit more flakier in cold/wet weather. More reliable is using the iPhone Control Center

I have a voice shortcut set up, but it's flaky as hell. I have no idea why or what device is the problem. Anyone else try using voice with Apple devices (Watch/iPhone)?

I have my setting off at home. And it works fine everywhere else. Also what I noticed is that at home if I touch my phone to the handles it unlocks the truck. So may be try same. Mine is Gen 2 R1T.
