R1S Purchase in Progress - July 2023 Reservation Holder

I decided to login to my Rivian reserveration and low and behold there was a little yellow green banner at the top saying for a limited time you can browse R1S configurations and purchase. I clicked - and boom - Max Pack Dual Motor AWD in Blue with Dark Ash Wood Interior - 21" wheels ... I filled out the registration info and also no trade in.

Couple of questions:

1. Can I get the guide when they contact to get us a charger installed?
2. I have a Tesla home charger - can I also use this in the interim?
3. Will I be able to add towing, accessories etc. that we want as well? I do really want a tow package is says it comes with dual hooks.

I can't believe this is happening!!!!

Congratulations! Your Tesla charger will work but you will need an adapter like the Tesla tap mini.

Rivian comes with receiver and all hookups for towing. You will just need your own hitch, ball, and depending on weight the weight distribution hitch setup.

Be careful with the less expensive ones. Some of those may not be up to quality standards.

I have one of these too. I use the TeslaTap Mini for daily charging on the R1S and I take the shockflo with us when we travel so I can make use of Tesla destination chargers.

I think they verify in the backend or something then next tasks will open up. I remember having two stops, even though we were ready for all 7 or so steps.

And ironically in 2024 you can use Tesla chargers in the wild.....Rivian is allegedly/committed? to giving owners the NACS->CCS adapter, but not sure when in 2024. Magic Dock Tesla chargers will work right away, around NJ but not yet in NJ.

All of that will happen for the Tesla chargers I'm sure - also - there will be some magic dock options - we're going to keep our Model 3 and drive it into the ground - it's been a great car since 2018 - and I may just get a charging adaptor depending on the install cost for a second charger near the garage - but in the winter - having two chargers would be kind of idea but maybe not really needed.

Good for you. That is our reservation date too--July of last year--and we just got an invite yesterday to configure for an R1T. We are wanting to check out the $7500 rebate coming this January that can be applied tothe purchase. I am going to contact them on Monday to ask how that works. I'll report back.

Another idea might be to replace your current charger with the new Tesla Universal Wall connector. We just installed one as we have a Tesla Model Y already and are expecting the Rivian soon.

ruh roh. If they are diving into reservations that are only 4 months old, next year may be a bumpy ride on the share price. It is looking like demand taps out at ~40k per year for the R1 Series in the North America, (which is not a huge surprise since LandRover is below 60k with a broad product line, and higher end EV brands like Polestar are in the sub 30k range).

The R1S marketing is going to be important over the next few months to stimulate a backlog for 2024. dropping the base dual motor large pack by $4k to just under the $80k threshold will make a lot of sense if the administration waives the battery sourcing requirements (looking likely).
