R1S - Quad to Dual Conversion

Curious if anyone has received any invites to switch from Quad to Dual, especially anyone taking deliveries were given the option? Not that they would as the inventory needs to clear up.

I don’t think that is a thing. Neither Rivian is providing that option, nor anyone i know is going to take it. What i heard is that if you want to switch to dual motor, they are not going to honor pre-price hike.

I did get this email from Rivian but when I contacted customer support, they said it wasn't available yet to switch my configuration.

I got the same email. Could switch my dual to quad or dual enhanced. If you were price advantaged pre March 1 I think you are still stuck with quad.

Yeah, I'm a 2021 reservation holder. Rivian said they'd allow these but didn't mention when. Might if I asked how much the price difference is for you?

There are no max pack orders for the R1S as it's never been an option. Rivian only recently announced/confirmed that they will be offering this and there has been no further info or ability to configure such a thing.

I converted my pre-march '22 priced R1T Max Pack order to an R1S (quad motor, large pack, only option) since buying a Lightning. I would be more interested in a dual motor max pack R1S than the quad, even at the same price or a bit more. No info as of yet...

As for pricing of the dual motor max pack R1S, Rivian seems to not know what they're doing just yet. I have, in writing from two different people at Rivian, one statement that says the dual motor max pack for the R1S will follow the same pricing as on the R1T for us pre-orders with special pricing. And another statement that says the special pre-order pricing will not be applicable. So I guess we'll see what the price is when the option actually becomes available and then I'll decide.

I am a pre-March 22 R1S order holder and even at the same price I would switch from Quad to Dual enhanced if given the option. Not sure if that makes sense to Rivian from a production cost standpoint. It would seem like a mutual benefit between additional range and reduced production cost.

I think there is a ~400 lbs difference and no discernible performance improvement, correct? Why give up any pricing advantage? I love my R1T, in five years if they pivot to dual I’ll have gem

Maybe I dreamed it, but the option to switch has always been there, the only issue is that the switch doesn't have any price advantage as you pay what the current price is in the configurator. Maybe the advantage is that you don't loose your place in line?

Did they change it and those with Pre 3/22 pricing will see some discount that someone ordering after 3/22 would not have?

Yes. I was a May 2021 Quad Max Pack pre-order but when Rivian informed us they were not going to build a Quad Max Pack I was switched over to a Performance Dual Max Pack keeping something close to my old pricing. Now I just hope they build it....in 2023
