R1S sunshade recommendation sought

Hey gang,

I’d like a sunshade for my (Gen 1, in case it matters) R1S roof for while it’s parked outside for a long time. I don’t plan to use it while driving, just to keep sun out of the car while parked.

I could use a windshield shade as well.

Any recommendations?

It took me multiple purchases to find the right one for my R1S. Complications included poor fitment, loose material when mounted, or difficultly keeping the screen attached. Many did not meet my expectations until I found one.

EVBase R1S Sunshade (Front & Rear)

The large sun shade fits perfectly. The screen is tight and retains a factory-like look. There is no seams that have light leaking through and no loose edges. Same with the rear. For the front shade, you’ll need a trim removal tool to open up the head liner so it snaps in place. It takes a bit to get it in there but it’s all worth it. Highly recommend and it also allows some light through which is a nice touch.

Another option is the Abstact Ocean R1S sunshade. I haven't tried this one yet.

For the front windshield I use the Rivian sunshade. I like it.

For the roof glass I use the ones from EVBase Oyabro listed. For me the shade for the front glass fit really nicely, but the shade for the back glass had to be positioned perfectly or there were gaps. It seemed like maybe it could have been a little bigger. I don't know that I would recommend this option though if you plan to put it in and take it out constantly. I'd be afraid of wrecking my headliner.

I like these two. Not sure what colour your interior is but you can get either black or grey for the roof. I got the grey and it goes well with the OC. It has reduced the heat significantly. The windshield shade is great too. At that price, I didn't expect much but it's done well. Just have to master the Jedi art of folding it back when done. Cheers.

There's no finer sunshade than Heatshield.

I've used them on my past few vehicles and past 2 years on my R1T.

I definitely second that, had full sets for two of my previous vehicles. Worked great to keep the sun out and for car camping.

You didn't exactly ask this, but I find MUCH more heat comes in the front windshield than the tinted roof. So I decided to not bother with the hassle of a roof sunshade and just set up the windshield one on hot sunny days. Keeps it at a level the AC can quickly cool from.

There were discussions on the forum last year, try a search. One concern people talked about was cracking, I'm not sure exactly why.

The Abstract Ocean one is excellent!! I put their sunshade in my wife’s R1S and it works great. Easy to install and very well made. I have their sunshade for my R1T and it also is good. Check out their R1 screen protectors as well. Excellent quality.

The one I got doesn’t fit well at all. It’s about 2 inches too wide and the support band is very stiff so it just troops in the center. Did I just get a bad one? Is there some secret to installing it?
