Maybe even sillier, sometimes owners manuals are conservative and don't fit every situation (e.g., difference towing a boat 4 hours on open highway vs 20 minutes at slower speeds).

Maybe even crazier, if one actually read the opening post, let alone the entire (short) thread, and you would have seen the owner's manual referenced - IN THE VERY FIRST SENTANCE!!!

So you're looking for someone to offer you advice that goes against the manufacturer's explicit recommendation? You already know the answer to your question, sorry if you don't like the stated guidance from the manufacturer or if you are just too cheap/lazy to follow it or just simply don't value the safety of yourself, your passengers, or the other vehicles on the road around you. Good luck with your towing adventures. And thanks for wasting the time of everyone here asking and re-asking questions that already have answers.

I wouldn't want to risk hurting anyone else for being lazy (but that's just me), so why not just do what the manual says?
