R1S updated estimated delivery window email (received June 11)

Any strategy regarding the underbody shield and how it effects delivery? I don’t really need it but will order it if it moves me up…

It's tough to tell what makes a difference. Certainly config (especially Ocean Coast or no) and location seem to be very big factors. In terms of skid plate or no it's likely a marginal difference but they have said in the past that they are prioritizing more expensive models/configurations which makes sense given the gross margins on these vehicles, especially for pre-orders. Would adding a skid plate move you from December to September? Unlikely. Would it push you ahead of others with the same config but no skid plate in the same delivery window? Possibly. Perhaps a different consideration for making that decision is for resale value. I did speak to Rivian and asked if it was possible to add it as an aftermarket at some point down the road, and they said 'no not at this time, has to be done at factory.' Could be that they add the option (or someone else does) at some point but it's a desirable feature for those who want a bit more piece of mind when taking the vehicle off road so might be worth considering adding it at this point if you can swing it. I know the vehicle isn't cheap already but it is an upgrade that has some commercial value.

I received it followed by a October - December delivery. The previous was April, then May - June. We had previously been notified that the purchase process was starting. Feb 2, 2019 R1S LE, Canyon Red pre-order.
Starting to feel like they don't want to deliver R1S orders at the old price.

Yeah, Tesla seems to have done this for years, especially last year with the new refreshed MS. They were delivering highest priced orders first it seemed, but they had it to where if you changed your design after your original order (with lower price), any change would incur the new increased price. Surprised Rivian hasn't done similar - said changes will impact price, but then delivering certain builds first that require changes (i.e. certain wheels, color/interior premiums, etc.)

I get this reasoning, but here's a possible counterpoint: the market will prioritize production numbers over profitability right now, so Rivian doesn't need to worry about maximizing profitability in 2022.

Therefore, they might as well sell the lower-priced vehicles first since they don't need the cash day to day now. And, and it will be better for them in the long run to have already delivered all of those vehicles so that they can book higher margins from post-March 1 orders in 2023 and later once profitability becomes more important.

Ultimately, I think they care a lot more about delivering high numbers of vehicles than about maximizing revenue now, so the incentive to play games around pricing is going to be low.

My delivery shifted from June/July 2022 to August/September 2022 only. Lucky I guess, although I ordered a LE R1S in Launch Green with black interior. I believe I preordered in 2019/2020. Pandemic has made my memory foggy!

Congrats, and yes you are lucky! I ordered on day one, PBA signed 4/21 LE R1S, LG/BM live in Los Angeles, had March/April and now Oct/Dec. Can't figure out my timing... Hopefully my Guide can help me understand.

Your Launch Edition R1S estimated delivery window is October - December 2022

We pre-ordered the day they announced. Nov 27ths 2019.

I received the same email (same updated delivery date). Prior window was June/July. I preordered in October 2019 during a visit to Normal to partake in one of their events.

I have August / September. That is the earliest I have seen

1st day reservation. Launch Green, Blk Mt, 22 sport dark + underbody. Had a guide and signed pba in April.

Have to agree, I’ve thought since I saw the R1 models that the SUV was going to be a huge hit.

There is also the point that many people like the bigger SUVs for various reasons and given the price of gas currently people looking for one certainly would look electric if available.

no brainer. just take a look around next time youre driving. guarantee 50% of the vehicles are a large, mid-size or compact SUV.

Same boat. preordered same day, LG/BM/20AT, guide + pba. orig window Mar/Apr, now Dec while others with same exact spec who ordered 2 years after me, in the same location, have July windows... total chaos chalk it up to startup hiccups. I'm just hoping the product delivers and doesn't come with a bunch of teething issues.

Who has July windows? I ordered the same day as you and the only thing different is 22 dark wheels and underbody. I have August / Sept. I haven't heard of anyone having July. Where are you seeing that?
