After the epic adventure of driving my R1T from Texas to Alaska, I am now in an incredibly unfortunate predicament! Cutting to the chase, my R1T was hit by a fast moving F150 on the left front corner here in Anchorage! No one was injured, the F150 was destroyed, my R1T is messed up but still drives, sort of. One big question is can I still charge it? I can get to the plug but it is wonked?!

Insurance is working on the claim but moving at a glacial pace!! No possibility of body work here and will need to go to Vancouver or Washington.

The question is, is the truck repairable? The insurance company is having a hard time deciding. I’ve attached some photos and looking for input. Rivian support in Anchorage is abysmal (I knew this before hand so bad on me!)

Input and mutual commiseration appreciated!

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Glad you're ok - that's a lot of damage. Hard to say if it's totaled, but I would set my expectations there and hope for the best.

What a bummer of a way to have your trip end. Hope you're all doing well and no one was hurt.

Suuuuuucks! Commiserating w you for sure. I enjoyed reading your adventure.

What would it even cost to ship this back to PNW?

Looks like it'd have to be shipped as I'm not sure it's drivable that distance on those roads. I'd push for getting it totaled as that's likely the quickest and easiest way to resolve the issue.

Definitely has front frame damage. It's repairable, but cost to repair will probably exceed the replacement value.

I'd start by calling/emailing Rivian support, but outside of that, try charging while monitoring it; open the drive mode screen, and monitor the battery temperature, and it wouldn't hurt to simultaneously open the Rivian app and new energy monitor tab so you could watch the incoming kW and make sure that is normal. I'd stop immediately if temps were high, kW was unusually low, or if you were getting error/warning messages.

What a terrible thing to happen to you on a trip. It sucks to no end. Great that you are ok.
Have seen other Rivians with less damage get totaled and insurance companies opting to total right away because of high repair costs.
I myself would push for totaling your Rivian.
As far as repairs, take it to a Rivian-certified collision repair shop. The one near me is state-of-the-art. Once repair bill starts skyrocketting, and it will, your insurance co. perhaps might have a change of heart.

Best wishes to you.

Glad everyone is ok. I was following your trip. Very disappointing to hear this. Like others have said, I'd start with the assumption it is going to be totalled. Work with your insurance company to escalate the issue and get you back home asap. Hope everything works out for you.

Wanted to bring some closure to my saga! After almost 6 weeks and before a proper body shop could even look at it, my insurance co. called my 2023 R1T with 42k miles a total loss. I am working and living in Anchorage 3/4 time now and so have decided to go back over to the gasser side! There are a few Rivians up here but the support is dismal. I still am a Rivian fan but out of the club for the foreseeable future. It’s been a fun “ride” and that drive from Austin was epic! I do have few items (2 sets of cross bars, full size 20” spare, adapters and maybe an iKamper tent) I will be peddling to Anchorage Rivian owners so hit me up if you are one.
