All,
I did a search and could not find the information that I was needing. Some remarks referred to kwh/mi. There is a thread comparing batteries of Gen 1 and 2 and the value that is being used kwh/mi.

Background: In my introduction thread I mentioned that I drive 225-250 round trip the 3-5 days that I work per week. I drive from East Texas to the Dallas area. I use I 20, HWY 80 and I 635 (LBJ). Speed limit on 20 is 75mph, but I do 70mph. HWY 80 speed limit is 70, but there are couple of areas with traffic is bumper to bumper. I drive 70 mph on 80 when I can. 635 the best speed you can get is 45-50, but most of the it is in the 30's. I charge my Y to 80% and try to recharge at 15-20% and on a rare occasion my SOC will drop to 10% before I can get to a charger. I can drive 160-175 miles on the 80-20% SOC. I use the Tesla Supercharger in Terrell on every trip.

My goal is to be able to drive the 250 mile round trip without recharging? Can a R1T meet that goal? I realize there are many variables involved.

Thank you for reading this thread and responding.

Obviously depends on which drivetrain and battery configuration, plus how you drive. ‘22-‘24 quad motor large pack and 34.1” AT tires can comfortably do 250 mi with 40-50 mi of range to spare.

I have a 23 R1T Dual Performance Large Battery which lists 351 miles as its range on 21" tires. I easily get over 300, but usually plan to charge after 250-300 just in case a charger is down. So yes in my case, but if it's overnight I always find a hotel with a charger or dryer plug nearby. Even a 6KW charger adds 16 miles per hour charge.

Depending on The battery/configuration. But also, in bumper-to-bumper traffic efficiency, and range, go up.

I have an R1S quad large pack. In Conserve at 100% estimates 321. I have a place that is 120 miles one way, at 90% I can make the round trip using conserve on the highway with 10% remaining if I’m trying to stretch the range but I usually charge before returning.

The drive is almost all highway 2/3rds is 65 mph and 1/3rd is 70 Mph.

One direction elevation starts at 23 feet, peaks at 3700 feet, ends at -29 feet.

I guess my point is you should be able to do it just not sure I would want to do it 3-5 days a week.

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: the R1T, depending on configuration of wheels/tires/battery size and drivetrain configuration, has a full charge range of 255–410 mi.

Worst case scenario, you have 5 miles to spare. Best case scenario, you have 160 miles to spare.

I'm wondering that even if you could make the trip, if you need to do it back to back, you'll have to make sure you can actually recharge enough at home to do it again the next day. Assuming that with such a long commute you're leaving early and getting home late - there simply may not be enough hours between the next departure to get you back up to 90-100% SoC before you leave again.

Again numbers will vary slightly, but assuming you can put ~22mi/hour back into the battery, replacing 250 miles will take upwards of 11 hours. If you're leaving at say... 6am, but not home till 7-8pm... you're holding a pretty tight window there to make the same trip the next day.

Range aside, I hope you have your 4-ways on and are in the far right lane if you are going below the posted speed limit unless you are looking to cause an accident or get a ticket.

My 2024 R1S large pack dual motor performance (in all purpose mode) has a theoretical range of 340 miles. Did a trip of 265 miles over the weekend almost all highway and arrived home with just under 20% charge. So my guess is that it can do 300 all highway realistically.

If you have a gen 1 quad, I’d probably try to charge close to 100% daily to hit the 250 highway range without range anxiety. It won’t hit 250 highway miles with the all terrain 20” however.

All,

Thank you for fantastic answers. They are extremely helpful.

RexRemus I think you have been following me. Those are the hours that I keep. Leave at 6:00AM and get home between 6:30-7:00PM. I have a Version 3 Tesla wall charger that charges 48 amps per hour. I can charge from 20% to 80% just over 4 hours.

Budman thank you for sharing your graph. I like your avatar.

Again thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond.

I think the best answer is "sometimes".

Depending on the weather and traffic you can absolutely get 250 miles on a charge. My longest trip was over 350 miles without stopping on my Gen 1 Large and less efficient 22" tires.

BUT my worst is more like 150 miles. I think the odds of you making that trip 200 times per year and never needing to stop are close to 0 even if your weather isn't as variable as mine.

How annoyed are you going to be if you ended up needing to charge for 10 minutes occasionally? Or what if it ends up being half the time? And what about after a year or two and the battery has degraded and it is now 100% of the time?

If I were you I would go for it. But I wouldn't be concerned about stopping to charge. If a 10 minute stop is a deal breaker, personally I wouldn't buy the vehicle. You may not need to every day, but you probably will need to sometimes and it might end up being a lot.

Sub,

Currently it is every trip. Usually I have to charge in the 4:45-5:30PM time. The Buc-ees is 75 miles from my house and it takes little over 10 minutes to charge from 15-20% to 50%. If I could reduce stopping to charge on my way home by 50% I would be happy and call it a success.

Thank you

I have a Version 3 Tesla wall charger that charges 12 amps per hour. I can charge from 20% to 80% just over 4 hours.
Are you sure 12 amps? Hopefully that is a typo.

A Rivian plugged into a 12 amp circuit will take a week to recover from a 250 mile drive.

BUT my worst is more like 150 miles.
Wow, I'm curious as to what was going on on that trip. I regularly squeeze 150 miles out of my '23 R1T Quad/Large/All-Terrain pulling a 25 foot Airstream Trade Wind travel trailer.
