Got into a very heated debate with my friend about how my R1T was faster than his Tesla MS. I was sadly mistaken. Still — fastest truck pounding the pavement! And yes — I’d take it over the CT!

If you’re talking about a Plaid model S, that is definitely true. The Plaid Teslas are the fastest production EVs available. Any Rivian should be faster than a regular model S though. Not by a bunch, but faster.

My 2016 Model S has a 4.3 second 0-60 so not as quick as my R1S with a 3.0 but with a 139 mph top speed certainly faster.

By the way, that 4.5 0-60 for the slower R1 spec is still going to be pretty quick.

Similar to a standard model S. You have to be in sport+lowest mode. Anything with "ludicrous mode" or plaid will be faster than the R1 though.

It’s right there but I believe there are a couple cars a fraction of a second quicker. The Dodge challenger SRT Demon and Rimac come to mind.

Great if this sort of willy waving is your thing, but honestly i just couldn't care less about tenths of a second in a road car, let alone a brick of a truck.

Reminds me of the early 00's when sports cars started adopting flappy paddle gear boxes and middle-age men at the golf club would brag about how their car changed gear quicker. Tragic.

sold our refreshed Model S last month (getting our R1S soon). We have an R1T quad and it sure doesn‘t feel as uncomfortably fast as the Tesla even though the listed times are both around 3.1 seconds

I haven never driven a Model S, nor have I ever owned a vehicle as quick as my Rivian, but I feel like it’s pretty well composed at high speeds. Sometimes I’m merging onto a highway and I suddenly realize I‘m going 95 mph :whew:

Congrats on becoming a 2 Rivian family soon!

well actually will be trading the truck on the R1S so will be a two Rivian family for 1 second during transfer. We decided to get a used Bmw i3 for around town errands and the R1S for everything else. The price difference between R1T + Model S and i3 + R1S max pack (new pricing) a bit more affordable. We have a 2014 i3 as our around town car in Vermont and love it so will now have one in both places and use the R1S driving between the two.

The base Model S has a 0-60 of what, 3.1s? That puts it right there with the Rivian, and past 60 the S is going to walk the S or T based on aero And weight alone. So in an absolutely perfect scenario, a properly equipped Rivian may nip an S off the hop, but will quickly be overtaken. And yeah, a Plaid is probably faster in reverse, let alone drive.

The Lucid Air Sapphire is about the only thing that doesn’t have Dos Commas in its price tag that can beat a Plaid in real world scenarios. The Dodge Demon spends the first 1/8th mile burning rubber unless it’s on a prepped track with slicks.

I have a refreshed Model S (not Plaid) and am picking up a Quad Motor R1T tomorrow. It will be a fun comparison! No comparison on range though, 328 claimed on R1T, 405 on Model S.
