Maybe, but don't read too much into patent artwork. This is similar to the thread which claimed Rivian was releasing a spare tire carrier for the R1S because the patent image showed what looked like an R1S. But that image was functionally impossible because there was no way to physically mount that design on the rear of an R1S and open the tailgate.

The image also shows both vehicles with thin spoke wheels that are not radially aligned. Does this mean Rivian is releasing those wheels? The Gear Tunnel door is not accurate on the R1 image.... or are they eliminating the gear tunnel?

And I am sure the artists know we look at these documents. I somewhat expect they have restrictions on how closely their drawings are allowed to match unreleased designs when it's not a design patent like this "vehicle bumper" patent for a rear bumper with integrated tow hooks.

Patent filings don't mean a whole lot. Could be product planning. Could also be a way to get ahead of the aftermarket... to pave way to claim product infringement and protect itself from protects that could be detrimental to brand equity.

Yes they did. The driver's side light is slightly larger than the passenger side one on the R2.

Did Rivian accidentally leak the design for the R2 in its roof rack light bar patent application?

The potential R2 has smaller signature lights, and is much shorter after the C pillar, and is clearly different to the R1T design included in the patent application:

hmmm, yeah, i know we shouldn't read too much into a patent application but the general look/silhouette seems to match what Rivian showed us before.

What stood out to me about this sneak peak wasn't so much the size, but the rectangular hump at the bottom of the D-pillar; the top of which isn't an extension of the belt or character line at the side of the car.

Hmm. R2 doesn't have mirrors or have I been looking at this all wrong before?

Disclaimer: I don't work for Tesla.

Maybe the swing-away spare tire design from the other patent we saw while back?

This is most definitely the R2. I mean even all of the numbers start with 2.

I really don't like the "Bronco Sport" look of that rear window, but we'll see.

I bet it is substantially the R2. All the lines and proportions simply make sense.

My money is on this being close to what R2 will look like, it just makes sense. Given the suspension height in the image, if they can manage to squeeze in the adjustable air suspension at the R2 price point (at least for the higher trims), that would be a game changer.

IMO much more likely that the hydraulic suspension carries over than the air suspension. I would expect the R2 to have the dynamic hydraulic system with a set height similar to "Standard." It's possible that they would offer the air suspension for higher trim models, but I doubt it for manufacturing simplicity.
