R2 Reservation outcomes and pricing implications

Howdy,
I'd appreciate any help in understanding what will likely happen for those with later reservations and selected Launch Edition. I'm a late adopter (among this group) and only just got mine ordered last month, March 2026.
1. Will there be some cutoff in the reservation list where the first N people get a Launch Edition (Performance level) and then the remainder are in line to order?
2. For those who have reservations but don't get the LE, wouldn't that mean those individuals will not get the Launch Package included?
3. If so, when will Rivian stop offering the LE as part of reservation? For instance if they are only making 10,000 LE vehicles, and 75% of those who reserve historically commit, you could stop at double that amount (~26,000) with lots of margin.
4. Rivian is saying that Premium level will be available in "late 2026." Does that give us any clues based on projected production rates when the LEs will be done being produced?
5. Based on projected production rate, any idea when someone reserving today will get delivery (assuming their trim level is available)?

I would be glad to get the LE (Performance) since I want the tow package and autonomy, but my needs would be met with Premium trim with those two options (plus I prefer the 20" wheels). It seems that the finances would be a wash with the Performance $4k more than the Premium but those two options are likely about that amount.

1) The only true answer is that nobody knows. I truly don't believe even Rivian has decided how many LEs they will make. Of the supposed ~300k reservations, not all will convert into buyers. Somewhere between 10% to 20%, from what I have read/heard. Of those 10-20%, not all are reserving for the LE Performance trim, or even if they do want the performance trim, many will wait for LIDAR. I'd say you have a better shot than many on here are willing to admit.

5) Assuming there really is 300k reservations, and assuming there is a very high conversion rate of 20%, and 75% of those 20% want the LE Performance, that puts the number ahead of you at about 45,000. I believe they said they plan on rolling out 25k-ish R2s by the end of the year. So maybe middle of next year?

3. No one knows but I'd guess its somewhere around 10-15K LE
4. Yes. Rivian has indicated they will produce between 20-25k R2 in 2026. If the Premium is available in late 2026, then some portion of the 20-25K is non-LE which by rough estimate might be 5-10K
5. Rivian had over 200K reservations in early 2025. Were likely way past that number now since the recent reveal of pricing and trims. Rivian's total production capacity in their current plant is 215K/year. Of that, they indicated 155K would be for R2. That assumes the ramp up time to get to 155K with multiple shifts. Of course not all reservations convert to a sale but its conservative to say it'd be late 2027 or early 2028 at the earliest someone who ordered now would get an R2.

Gen 1 was released top-down with the full-spec quad LE first, and there were both 2022 & 2023 LE models, BUT Gen 2 was released bottom-up, with the quad last. I mention this because there was supposed to be a Tri-motor, and if they do later offer an R2 Tri, it will almost certainly come out as an LE Tri for the initial units, giving you another shot at an LE. If like the Gen 2 quad, it will probably not be priced as a deal (initial LE price seems great). The Gen2 Tri and Quad are reportedly Rivian's highest-margin vehicles, and they will probably milk us for a lot more on a Tri R2 (I would). The wildcard in all this, and why this time LE might be a short release, is the introduction of Gen3 hardware less than a year from now.
Hopefully, you're able to focus on the upside of having so many great choices and not the downside of not knowing what you can buy and when; whatever R2 you land in, I'm sure it will be amazing.

ADAS version 3 aka Gen 3 (bearing n mind Gen 2 R1 was more of a change than just ADAS).

I think as stated by many, no-one knows and any answers are speculation at best. We'll know all at the same time when Rivian answers these questions, some answers are coming in June. I say that as I received an email in part that said something like I'll get information in June on my account when I would be able to configure my R2.

FWIW the same types of questions came up for the Mach-E, Bronco, Maverick, Lightning, and other HOT vehicles being launched. In all cases before the manufacturer gave clarity some speculation was correct, some was way off. In all cases deliveries to reservation holders took years just like the R1.

It will be hard for anyone to speculate your time line. A lot of different factors will affect when you will get your car. Depending on your location (they will focus on certain areas first so if you live in Wyoming for example, you may be passed up for a while), if you own an R1, if you're getting a certain trim, if you're waiting for lidar, the conversion rate, and even what interior color will effect where you will be in line. June is when people should get an idea when to expect their car or when they can configure. I would keep an eye out for it.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read that it had been confirmed that reservation holders will be able to defer. Not sure exactly how it will work though

I would assume it would work with them granting you shop access in the first cohort (if that was your place in line) and you just wait until you see the vehicle you want - which Infiniti’s a white interior would be late 2026 by all accounts). We will know more in two months.
