@R1Thrilled well damn, David. Sorry but thanks for your transparency. Hoping yours is a rare exception or ill need to rethink my commitment.
Thank you, I truly believe these sort of issues aren’t common. I haven’t heard anything back from them yet (they just got the car this morning, and it is Saturday… so probably Monday at the earliest) but I expect them to take their learnings and use it to help identify potential problems in other cars, or correct service processes which could have led to this. But I’ll update everyone when I get info!

If you have an actual alignment issue or operation issue with the door sure, but there are about a billion posts about how people do or don't like the "feel" of it. That's a design decision, not a defect or issue. If I don't like the feel of the steering wheel should I post here? Or maybe I find the choice of available colors to be a bit disappointing. Should I post here?

That's not what this thread is supposed to be about.
OT but I’d love to see the forum thread griping about the design choice of the new BMW iX3 steering wheel

Because they wanted to put their money towards something more important than a motorized door for the charging port? The design they chose for the R1 does some crazy moves, so maybe they went with a simple flap as it's most likely easier and cheaper to replace.

Plus, it's really only EVs that have motorized 'fuel input' covers. If there are any on ICEVs, they are rare - so a plain jane flap is not abnormal in the car world.
But it didn't need to be motorized to be concealed in the trim pieces the way the S, X, 3, & Y were. Rivian could have it be manual, but still integrated into the tail light so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb...

...and it's not like they didn't already have a template to rip off from Tesla to do it. They put so much obvious thought into so much of the design of the R2 that the charge port door really sticks out as... not having had the same careful consideration that went into everything else.

INORIT?

Once again, an engineer tries to reinvent... the wheel.
