At first glance those two vehicles look similar in the carsize image but the shape difference at the nose and tail are pretty darn important for usable storage space. Useable, accessible cargo storage space is a big point in the R2s favor.

Obviously referring to overall dimensions, not nuances. For nuances, all will be revealed 3/12. Would it kill anyone to wait a few weeks? You can't order and use your custom fitted alligator skin luggage set until you have the car in your driveway anyway.

I'm curious what the difference in distance is between the street/pavement and top of the driver's seat for the R2. One of the biggest annoyances of the R1 is the lack of factory-available running boards to make entry/exit easier. I'm sure the R2 is lower, but it'd be good to know what it is in comparison to something like the Model Y or other popular crossovers. I'm guessing it's going to be a few inches higher.
There is 3" diff in ground clearance, Y is 6.6" and R2 wb 9.6" which is great for an SUV. I dont think youd need running boards on an R2 anymore than you would on a Rav4 or similar though.

I think the R1S ground clearance in kneel mode is ~10", so the R2 being at 9.6" isn't that much different (but obviously, there's more to this than just ground clearance, there could also be differences in the floor pan stack height, the height of the seat assembly, etc.). A RAV4 has 8.4" and a Forester has 8.7". Ultimately, we'll have to wait and see how all the pieces come together...

Good to see how similar in size they are. I traded my Model Y in for an R1S and find the R1S simply too big for my needs. The R2 looks to be the perfect size for me.
Same.... My wife and I drove an R1S last week - first time driving or riding in a Rivian. Impressed with the quality and range of adjustments, but yeah, way too big. And a bit cumbersome on the road, TBH. Certainly compared to my MY. I'm not expecting the road manners of the MY, which I find to be perfect for me, but I imagine the R2 will be a bit less cumbersome simply due to it's smaller size compared to R1S.

I've tried to figure this out as well, and based on the numbers I looked at it seems like R2 driver experience will be similar to R1 in "Low"
On my demo drive last week in an R1S - my rep said almost exactly that. In fact, he said ride position will be "virtually the same" in the R2 FWIW.

why compare the R2 to a hatchback?
I've noticed with EVs, people tend to think about them less in terms of specific body styles and more in terms of what they actually deliver. It usually comes down to price, range, charging speed, and then then in a slightly second tier consideration: interior space, and overall utility rather than whether it neatly fits into hatchback, crossover, or SUV categories.

I think it's the mix of range being such a focus combined with the EV options being a lot more limited, and that causes a lot of category cross shopping.

I gave up trying to understand people after enough threads cross shopping R1T with sedans and hatchbacks. Not surprised by this one
Lots of people don’t think enough. False equivalencies are made all the time on any topic. As expected as human nature.

I have tremendous respect for the Model Y and I understand its appeal to a large portion of car buyers but I have never understood why it is considered an SUV.

Seeing it side by side with the R2 really reinforces that confusion for me. Tall, roomy sedan, sure. But an SUV?

Anxious to see some R2's in the wild.
I had a Model Y and never considered it an SUV - it's a hatchback. It sucked in rural areas, gravel roads, and I totaled it sliding into a ditch in snow at 15 mph which still amazes me.. no easy way to set a snow mode, Im looking fwd to a much higher clearance and hopefully better build. I will not miss those frameless windows either.
