Range anxiety before purchasing trimotor R1S?

Stick it in conserve and don't worry again. I routinely make this trip as my Dad's house is approximately the same distance, and I don't even charge over 70% to make it there and back. It has never been a problem, even in winter.

Chiming in on this one. I have a Quad Gen 1, charge to 80% every other day, that gives 250 miles of range. You can do that 150 mile trip, all-day everyday, even if it slipped into 200 mile range. No charging whatsoever while on the round trip. That's in All-Purpose/all wheel drive by the way too.

Pretty much just the opposite, put on max regen and one-pedal drive it like a go-cart! Driving an ICE in stop-and-go traffic sucks, driving an EV in traffic sucks less

I'd also love to see some of your Boarder Collie sheep herding if you get a chance. Our dog is a Boarder Collie mix, and he's always pushing us around from behind when he wants to get us to go somewhere.. but at least he doesn't nip our legs!

The one pedal driving is easy to get used too. My wife completely agreed it was easy to adjust and she does not drive very much. I have been on this forum for about three years or so and I only remember one person who said they struggled with it. We have a Gen 1 R1T and even in the harsh Minnesota winter I can get 150 miles of range. Last summer we drove to Montana and from Wall to Chamberland SD is about 155 miles. I charged to 83% and figured it should be plenty of charge. I drove 80 to 85mph and hit a 40 to 50mph head wind. I showed I would be really close for making it to the next charger. I lowered it one notch and slowed down to 70 to 75 and made it easily. The Trimax has 50 miles more range so you sould easily make your regular route easily in any conditions.

Have a 2025 Gen2 R1S Tri. I regularly charge to 70% nightly and it gives me a range of about 280miles... Yes, that's at 70%. I drive fairly aggressively, and drive in a mix of highway and street traffic 60 miles daily. In the Tri, you'll be absolutely fine - even if you live in subzero conditions.

Absolutely brilliant! Brings back some wonderful childhood memories. One of my best friends dad was a farmer and my friend used to run with the sheep dog. He was the best long-distance runner in our school. I also remember going to fairs where there would be competitions for the sheep dogs. Cheers.

Left home wit 100% charge. Travelled 206 miles to the first charging stop. Arrived with 38% charge left. Driving in All Purpose mode, standard height. I do keep my R1S speed at 65 for the most part, but that is because I am never in a big fat hurry to get anywhere on long trips.

My concern is real world range of traveling 75-80 MPH on the highway or if I run into traffic,...

...Would I have to charge to 100% the night before I make a trip like this? ....theoretical range 60% of the full range or 197 miles in the 329 rated AT tires trimotor? So if the trip is a Max of 150 miles would that be cutting close given the faster speed or real world driving environments?
I realize there is "conserve mode" but read that was not good for the tires?

.....Do you think the 22' tires could handle this type of use.
Finally my only other concern is the sound system has gotten some very nasty reviews. Curious are most of you satisfied after the software update?

Very valid questions to ask and many good responses to assure that its fine for your particular issues.

That said, there are few important variables that are unique to you.

1) Speed is a big factor and I drive my g1 quad R1S at 75~85mph on road trips and it gets about 1.8~2 kWh/mile on 22" AS tires over relatively flat topology.

2) If there is a traffic, it actually helps range as you're not consuming at the same rate as if you were driving at 75~80mph.

3) Consider the topology, if it involves lot of altitude changes that will impact range.

4) Conserve mode use on the road trip is not a big deal. What eats away at the front tires is the stop and go, accelerate-decelerate cycle, especially if you have it in high-regen braking. On steady cruise, not an issue at all.

5) Last two environmental factors are the headwind/crosswind that changes the actual velocity the vehicle sees and ambient temperature, given that you live in Chicago. Heavy headwinds and cold temperatures will degrade your range.

The batteries are robust and I often charge it to 90~100% on a long drive or road trips. I have ran the charge down to single digits of % on road trip. Chances are, unless you plan to keep the vehicle for 10~15 years, I would not be overly cautious about the battery SOC.
