I am running Home Assistant with the Rivian HACS plugin to monitor the vehicle, I have noticed a trend where the vehicle wakes up, and stays awake for an hour, then goes into standby for 1 minute (you can't see it in the chart, but it's 1 minute after each ready).

I was wondering if there's anyone else running a similar setup with Home Assistant has seen similar power state activity.

My truck is currently in the service center and has not been moved during this selected range.

Here's a popover of the "Standby" state, you can see it's 1 minute and 3 seconds, this is due to varaiance in polling the data (roughly 5 seconds).

Looking at the metrics some more, I noticed that my GPS Bearing seems to report a high degree of changes while the vehicle is in the "Ready" state.

And here's the bearing punched in on the 1:50-2:50PM segment:

I'm also seeing this as well, did you ever figure out why it was in a ready state for an hour at a time? What does "ready" even mean at the OS level?

I never found an answer on this, but ready indicates the truck is awake/ready to drive.

Looking at my stats again it looks like it's still happening, less frequently but still waking up/ready 7 times from 1am till 10am today.

However it sounds like the 2024.39 update might address this as s they're updating the sleep behavior.

Good point, I'll monitor after 2024.39 and report back as well.

IIRC the car wakes to charge the 12v battery and that there was a test somewhere when someone put a battery tender on their 12v and their main pack was not drained much at all. I wonder if this is all related.

I also remember seeing a post on the Rivian Subreddit about the 12v battery, this might be what causes it to wake up, but that's concerning that it would do a top of charge every couple of hours, and seemingly for 45-60 minutes a time.

In my case the truck is driven multiple times every day, so it's not like it sits for any extended multi-day periods.

I am definitely interested in what changes happen with the 2024.39 update, they don't call out this particular behavior, but if they're changing the sleep behavior already I wouldn't be surprised if there's other optimizations in it.

Yeah this looks like the 'normal' battery tending. Sleeps for 2-3 hours, wakes up for an hour to top up the 12v system, rinse and repeat to the tune of a 1% loss per day roughly. Considering the tiny size of the 12v battery, I don't see how software can help here in any way, beyond having better logic to keep the truck from waking up more often than the above.

And also yeah, battery tender works great, plug it in and wake-ups and VD loss goes to all but zero.

no changes with the latest software version. If I get the time, I'll try to test with a battery tender and update the thread
