It’s mentioned in the survey, but since I don’t always run with the tire swing, would be awesome to have a quick disconnect/swap to change between the center cap mounted camera and the stock camera.

Yep, absolutely. I have all the parts to test this currently but gotta wait to get my R1S back from the SC to do so.
The biggest downside here is that a second camera costs between ~$400 and ~$525 from Rivian if purchased new. The switch also needs to be appropriate for the power and signal type traveling through it, not just a regular switch.

For the R1S it’s about 10 clips and 2 screws. Pretty easy to access imo, @Polar also had a pretty breezy time I think. It’s the same on gen1 and gen2.
On the R1T, though, it’s a bit more difficult. More clips and more screws. We are still trying to see if there is an easier way to do it, but regardless, it’s definitely doable.

Use of trim removeal tools is VERY helpful.

In the below image you can see the clip locations and mount designs. When I have a moment I’ll pop off the panel again to get a better image of the locations. The camera is just two torx screws (and two clips - coax and hose) to remove from the panel itself.

As a part of the kit I’ll be adding some spare clips too in case they happen to break when trying to remove them.

Like others have said here, I, too, don’t have my swingarm / tire mounted year round, so am interested in options for as quick and easy of a connect / disconnect as reasonably possible.

Sorta related.. just got the rigid swing carrier for my R1s. It blocks the reverse sensors and camera, but does anyone else get rear radar errors also? Could you all lmk its driving me nuts and want to make sure its not a actual issue!

Also, seems like ebay has some gen1 used rear cameras. Wondering if there is a difference in connections/interoperability between the gen 1 and gen 2 cameras (knowing the gen2 are much improved)

The gen1 and gen2 cameras can currently use the same hardware to connect but that’s not the biggest issue. Connecting them blindly is not a good idea as it’s possible something might fry, like the onboard computer.

I will be testing the digital protocols on the cameras to see what they are. But most likely they will be incompatible because the bandwidth of the higher res gen2 cameras might be too much for gen1 vehicles (unless they’ve done good software engineering and can trade off resolution for frame rate correctly). If they are the same protocol and have the same power over coax voltages then it might be possible to put gen1 in gen2 vehicles, but even then it would depend on how they’ve programmed the displays to handle different resolutions. The ML CV models detecting objects/vehicles/pedestrians/etc in the images might still work depending on the model because it’s probably using a downsampled image to keep the inference time low and model size small (this is a common method of reducing model compute), but that’s just speculation.

It would be nice to see above the bikes on my hitch mount or above the folded up mount. As it is, I remove my QuikRStuff mount every time I done using it. I'm sure that this would also be a great help for those that haul items.

I also thought about this and was looking into what this might take. The convenience of the existing camera plug already being outside the seals of the liftgate is why we have run it from the current camera location. There is another camera connector on the R1S further down the line into the vehicle but I need to locate it and determine the feasibility of running from there up to the high brake light. Designing a camera mount for the brake light may not be too hard.

Otherwise, a less integrated version of wrapping the cable all the way back around the liftgate and simply sticking a camera mount to the top of the liftgate should be easy.

The equivalent to the T bed cam. This is what came to my mind - if the truck software would support it and we had another coax source feed would be quite amazing, but very doubtful.

How simple is it to remove/use the spare wheel with the camera mounted?

Edit: Very simple. Basically unmount, and detach the cable from the camera.
