Just did my fourth roadtrip with kids and first in winter. Would be amazing to actually be able to have them control the second row “zones” on rear display.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about the rear screen having any functionality beyond heated seats? It’s useless right now…

Sadly I haven't heard anything, but I sure would love the seemingly basic ability to turn it completely off. My kids are too young to be trusted with it so I keep it locked 24/7

At least it can be locked. But they had all these promises about climate control that I really need for long trips.

I don’t need games, or want them, just climate. I need that a lot more than many of the recent updates - including waypoints. I still use Waze as the navigation system itself is awful.

The vehicles only have 2 zones, right and left. The fan speed can be controlled separately for the 3 rows but not temps.

I neeeeeeeed them to enable a basic map on the rear screen so my 4 year old can watch that instead of yelling at me that my elbow is blocking his map view.
Totally agree.

My kids insist that I always have it open to the "toy car" page. It would be nice to be able to put the birds eye camera view on the back screen so I could see the map.

RJ had mentioned this an underutilized screen they want to add features to. He’d said they are working on it but didn’t commit to specific features or timeline.

Actually they said by the end of summer 2023 they're going to totally revamp the back screen including streaming apps AND they'd change the birds eye view of the camera system on the front so that you can manipulate the screen to see the truck from more angles.

Just saw the holiday update for my Tesla X. Totally revamp of rear screen with Bluetooth headphones, games, etc. Again, don’t need games, but come on Rivian! Granted, it did take Tesla two years to get around to this!!!

I would love to see if the volume and the temp can be scrolled on the rear screen I often have guests in back asking for more air or too be cooler. If I turn it up then the front passengers get too much air. My old range gave me full control front and back would love to see my R1S do it he same

Rivian doesn't have the hardware for separate 2nd row climate settings. That isn't something they can change via an OTA update.

If you gave the 2nd row passengers control over temp or fan speed it would change the 1st row temp/fan speed because they share the same fan and cooling hardware.

We don't know that, do we? Rivian has made mention in the past of an OTA adding quad zone climate control.

I would think they would at least have the fan controls already enabled if it was capable, they have it for the third row. I think the only thing they may have is the vent controls for second row. Would like to be wrong but really does not make sense to not already have it if it was capable.

Enough people have taken apart these vehicles for repair/salvage/curiosity that if there was a bunch of currently unused AC hardware in the vehicle it is hard to imagine that no one would have found it yet.

It is capable, Wassym Bensaid (VP of Software Development) said this much, and that it would be coming s00n. Of course that was over 6 months ago, so who knows what time table they are actually working on.
