At first you think that could possibly help, but in reality... if the driver behind you is looking down at their f'ing phone... you could put a burning sun right down on the back of your truck and they won't notice it. It's a complete joke at this point because you see cops, and even "professional" drivers like UPS, Fedex, even Semi drivers texting while driving.

That's true, but tiny brake lights don't do anything to help the situation. Inattentive drivers are an issue, but larger brake lights might just help catch their eye in some situations. I've been behind sime Teslas and noticed that the brake lights are tiny, almost to the point that they aren't easy to see in bright sunlight.

Unfortunately, rear end collision damage can be deceiving and depends on how hard and at what angle you're hit.

I drove it the rest of the way to work and then home 12 hours later a total of ~75 miles but then then the suspension and sensor warning lights started so I had it towed to the Rivian certified shop where it still sits there over 2 months while the shop continues to go several rounds with my insurance company over the final estimate which the shop says is $29,600 after tearing it down and calling Rivian service regarding parts not in the database (e.g. rear floor), but my insurance company is only up to $21k after starting at $3,800 based upon only photos like above.

At the end of today if my insurance company doesn't agree to pay the full estimate them the shop won't start repairs unless I guarantee the $8k difference! SMH

Otherwise, if I decide to take it to another Rivian certified shop, then I have to pay the $6k-$7k in storage fees ($100/day) and teardown labor.

The best part is that the driver of the p.o.s. Chevy Silverado that catapulted the p.o.s. Honda Civic into my R1S rear end only had the Maryland minimum required insurance coverage which is $15k for property damage which won't even cover the totaled Civic let alone my R1S repairs which results in an uninsured motorist claim with my insurance company that will cause my insurance rate to go up most likely or even may result in my insurance company dropping me since this is the third no fault accident with 3 different vehicles on my policy in the last 2 years which has happened according to my independent insurance agent. #OnlyInAmerica!

I hope OP experience is much better but lessons learned are:
1) the total damage is usually more than it appears once they start pulling parte off.
2) Insurance companies don't want to pay any more than they have to even if it's not your fault.
3) ALL insurance companies SUCK including your own!

Yeah No one was hurt, The other insurance would not confirm yet if the vehicle is covered under the insurance. Wagoneer belongs to a dealer and its not very clear if the vehicle is covered

If it belongs to a dealer there should be ample insurance.

Those blaming regen for lack of braking indication must be too young to have ever regularly driven a stick shift ICE. Using the gears and clutch was a lot more fun than using the brakes, and there was zero tie-in to the lights.

I presume there is now a regulation covering Jake and Exhaust brakes triggering yellow lights because I see it on buses, but when I had a diesel RV there was no triggering from the exhaust brake.

Regen does light up the rear brake. I have noticed some weird behavior though. If I am going down a steep hill and use almost all, but not all of the Regen to maintain(not reduce) that speed, it does not light the brake lights. Same when I am maintaining speed at say 1 mph. If I brake gently, I can come to an almost complete stop without triggering the brake light.

All this needs improvement. If there is Regen beyond a certain point, switch on the brake light, not that hard. Also at <2 mph crawl. Reason? ICE would require brake lights in these scenarios and EVs should do the same to avoid rear rend collisions. There will still be too many stupid people, but brake lights definitely help reduce response times. If you find yourself behind a car with broken brake lights, you will know.

Afaik, there are rules dictating the scenarios when the brake light should be on, but not the other way. Someone posted detailed government rules on this website some time back.

I'd say 15-20k and 3 months in the body shop for yours. This assumes no hidden damage. Things might be a little twisted.

As mentioned, ask for diminished value. You lost at least 10% of your vehicle's value right off the top. Hope it isn't leased.

I'm wondering how much in repairs I'm look at.

Hi, I got rear ended by a Infinity SUV my repairs were around 7500 USD. the one thing to keep an eye on is the rear-hatch, mine needed to be adjusted by Rivian as it would not close each time after the accident.

The vehicle is not leased, I own the vehicle. The body shop appointment is scheduled for Wednesday.

Trying to negotiate a deal with the car dealer to sell the car at $75k. The plan is to buy a Gen 2 in about 6 months(July/August) from now. I will be away for a couple of months between now and July.

What do you guys think on $75k and buying a Gen2 in six months.
