I love the black when it’s clean, but my goodness is it hard to keep it that way. I’d definitely do limestone or literally any other color (except yellow, no offense if that’s your jam!) if I could do it again. If I could do it all over again, I’d do limestone. Imagine a limestone, or even black, with the black seats but the warm forest edge wood interior. Would be amazing

Black is 100% a labor of love.

PPF and Ceramic coating along with pressure washer, foam cannon and battery operated leaf blower make it easier / less labor intensive.

One way or another you will pay to make black look clean all the time.

So true! Wish I would have done PPF - people say it’s for the next buyer, but if you have a black vehicle, I think it’s definitely for the current owner!

Countdown to people who complain about paying for a paint color in 5.....4....3......2.....
I only wish they would have a couple of included colors, its kinda lame the silver is the only one that qualifies for tax rebates and the others get excluded because of price.

I didn't think of that....agree...there should be a few more no charge options than just silver.....

You got it…it’s a little ridiculous to only offer one zero dollar paint color, and sliver at that. We’re not talking exotic Porsche Paint To Sample here, we’re taking black, white, blue…

Probably true...probably would actually be better if they raised base $1750 and include all the colors they currently add $1750 for...as well as silver...and then make the next step up a $1250 add to that.

Probably would appear better to customers then as a bunch of "no charge" paint colors (albeit baked into base price) and then make the adder colors a smaller percievable adder.

This makes me giddy!!! TY!
Since Rivian and RJ are into eco-conscious, would Rivian offer any upgrades in new R1 into existing cars in the road; if compatible and for a premium. I am willing to spend up to 10-20k, if I can get an improved driver+ experience or camera or glove box …. that may come in newer models.

i know we bought what we bought and thus willing to pay premium now to keep it current; rather than wait for it to make economical sense to trade in. This way Rivian saves the planet and also has revenue. ?

That would be cool. Even the used market would benefit from that aspect.

Outside of the leather/fabric surroundings, at first glance, it's a seemingly easy job to do. The intricacies lie in the harness(es). The quickest way to sink a ship and blow a wad is to receive the wrong harness. Dash will 9/10 be the PITA. Will 10k suffice at a service center? I don't think so. Fifteen, possible. Twenty, yes. But, they've been price-slashing. Ten might be a great baseline.

items like the center console and door panels are easy to do, ripping apart the dash is tedious.

I'm getting that same info from my source. Apparently the media team has already left Irvine for the youtubers unveil. Allegedly...

Unfortunately, no. If they are changing the wiring harness, there's literally no cost-effective way to do this. And speaking of the environment, what do you expect them to do with the old cameras and the old harness and the old sensors? They can't go into a new build and no one wants to buy them. Maybe they can be used as off the shelf spare parts, but even that's asking a lot.

This tracks, but man, I would probably throw down a couple grand to get a heat pump and improve efficiency in the winter.

I charge at home so not the biggest deal but I def envy new buyers this one thing...

I think it's less of a benefit than we all think. If you have shore power, almost no difference. Buy I honestly don't know everyone else's percentages of use. For me, shore power is really available 9/10 times at the start of a cold day.

Thanks for your X post. ?

I'm really curious about the premium interior. It'd be funny if they offered good ol' Cow Leather. That'd be hilarious. Joking of course.
Serious question, what's funny about leather? There exists eco friendly sustainable ways to tan leather. IMO it's better and more sustainable than the use of petrochemical "forever chemical" based interiors.
Also I'm not sure but I think the steering wheel might be leather already.
Personally I'd prefer leather interior.
