I didn't meant to make it sound like a complaint. I was told it would be a couple days, and indeed, the insurance company called yesterday afternoon. The claim is processed, I need to proceed with a repair choice; go to Rivian or a third party shop. They gave a list of shops but also said that most of them won't do Rivians. It's on me to figure it out. They also confirmed that the person at fault only has minimum coverage, $15k. What this means is that my collision insurance becomes the primary claim, and her coverage is subrogated, even though they are the same company. Technically/legally they "fight" internally. She said my claim team "might" get most of my deductible and some other expenses covered from "her" team. But get this bullshit...she can't give me any useful answers in order to make a business decision ahead of time.I know most of us don't like to pester companies we work with, but I'm sure you already know you have to be a major PITA to get them moving on your claim. Just keeping it real![]()
So for example, a rental car is on me, but "might" be paid back. Or not. We have a second car and motorcycles, but it's a microcar (Smart ForTwo) so there are limitations on its usefulness. And...for how long? Goddammit. Is the wrap covered? Dunno.
My initial thought is to call the shops on their list and find out which ones do Rivians, then get time estimates. In particular, will they inspect it and order parts without leaving it there? And then I will call Rivian, and request that the SC manager talk to me to discuss the same things. With Rivian, there's a possibility of a loaner R1S, which is still not great but better than nothing or a shitbox rental. However, normally with service, you have no idea if they will give a loaner until you actually go to drop yours off. I want to change that. Will he cooperate? Dunno. The SC staff live in an ivory tower and it's extremely rare to be able to actually reach them. They also behave as if time doesn't exist, and the owner shouldn't care/ask.
Then there's the tonneau cover failure which is warranty not collision, so it can only be done by the SC. The last failure and replacement took 17 days. Yes, I said, seventeen fucking days, when I was given a shitbox Cadillac station wagon to drive instead.
