I know most of us don't like to pester companies we work with, but I'm sure you already know you have to be a major PITA to get them moving on your claim. Just keeping it real 😄
I didn't meant to make it sound like a complaint. I was told it would be a couple days, and indeed, the insurance company called yesterday afternoon. The claim is processed, I need to proceed with a repair choice; go to Rivian or a third party shop. They gave a list of shops but also said that most of them won't do Rivians. It's on me to figure it out. They also confirmed that the person at fault only has minimum coverage, $15k. What this means is that my collision insurance becomes the primary claim, and her coverage is subrogated, even though they are the same company. Technically/legally they "fight" internally. She said my claim team "might" get most of my deductible and some other expenses covered from "her" team. But get this bullshit...she can't give me any useful answers in order to make a business decision ahead of time.

So for example, a rental car is on me, but "might" be paid back. Or not. We have a second car and motorcycles, but it's a microcar (Smart ForTwo) so there are limitations on its usefulness. And...for how long? Goddammit. Is the wrap covered? Dunno.

My initial thought is to call the shops on their list and find out which ones do Rivians, then get time estimates. In particular, will they inspect it and order parts without leaving it there? And then I will call Rivian, and request that the SC manager talk to me to discuss the same things. With Rivian, there's a possibility of a loaner R1S, which is still not great but better than nothing or a shitbox rental. However, normally with service, you have no idea if they will give a loaner until you actually go to drop yours off. I want to change that. Will he cooperate? Dunno. The SC staff live in an ivory tower and it's extremely rare to be able to actually reach them. They also behave as if time doesn't exist, and the owner shouldn't care/ask.

Then there's the tonneau cover failure which is warranty not collision, so it can only be done by the SC. The last failure and replacement took 17 days. Yes, I said, seventeen fucking days, when I was given a shitbox Cadillac station wagon to drive instead.

Rivian should give you a loaner while they fix the tonneau cover, so maybe they can do the other repairs as they wait for tonneau cover parts. Then you don't have to worry about insurance covering the loaner.

It's a great theory, but not my reality at this SC. I think you missed this...
"The last failure and replacement took 17 days. Yes, I said, seventeen fucking days, when I was given a shitbox Cadillac station wagon to drive instead."

My truck has been in service a lot of days, three of them with a loaner.

The first recommended shop I called had me repeat "Rivian" three times and then asked, "Who makes that?" Great start.

So that's a "no" for them? 😬

I actually read that before posting. I figured if it takes them 17 days to fix the tonneau cover, they can fix the other the other things while it sits there waiting on parts for the cover. (My assumption is they took so long due to part availability.) And you have a loaner for 17 days, paid for by Rivian.

I guess if the 17 days was them just too busy to work on it, then it might take them 30 this time. But will they pay for the loaner for part of it?

Interesting thought. When I get in touch with the SC to negotiate this all, I'll ask about that. Do note that they call their Rivian loaner vehicles "loaner" and the Enterprise a "rental," so I mistook your words to mean they'd give me another Rivian.
