Rivian Connected Dog Collar Patent

For those of us who already own tracking collars, it would be nice to be able to utilize those.

However, I'm definitely an outlier because it, like my watch, is Garmin. (Always felt like the Garmin watch was much more closely aligned with Rivian's brand image than Apple; however, I also understand the whole market share conversation.) So I know that dog won't hunt.

I like dogs, but will never understand people who center their lives around them and take them everywhere.

Just spend more time reading some of the threads on this forum (or any other forum for that matter) and you'll quickly discover why people would rather spend more time with their dogs than other people.

(I do agree the anthropormorphism exhibited by some can be a bit over the top. I've always had dogs, always have loved my dogs but they are dogs,)

Oh for sure. Dogs are on average more lovable than people.

Yeah, you should never anthropomorphize animals, they hate it when you do that.

I’d definitely prefer that more people bring their dogs in public than their kids.

When I was a kid my first couple dogs lived outside almost all year and there was no such thing as dog daycare. It's a completely different world now. Our customers spend lots of their hard earned money on their dogs. Some of them have crazy demands that we immediately shut down, like cooking a venison steak for their dog every morning for breakfast Others have dogs that are on 8-10 prescription medications we have to dispense every day.

If I could just spend time with the dogs without dealing with their parents or my staff, life would be pretty great ?

Substitute the word dog with kids and it sounds like my wife (she taught Middle School)....actually, take that back, to add most of the kids because, she had a few doozies over the years

My wife had one (disabled, but wicked smart) kid that put our home up for sale, including listing an "open house". Took us a minute to figure it out. What a mess!

Dogs really are man’s best friend. Lock your wife and dog in the trunk of your car (not R1) for an hour and see who is happy to see you.

Not advocating anyone actually try this. That would be somewhere between a CLM and an EOM.

This patent is interesting, but I don't have much faith in this coming to market, at least within this decade. The dog stuff in the gear shop at the moment all seems pretty cheap looking to me. This is more of a culture/brand item that isn't going to be very profitable, and there is just so much more I think the company is going to be focused on in the next 5 years. Also, I think most owners like myself prefer to get their expensive dog specialty items from places that are highly specialized in it, like https://ruffwear.com/

Or put a cat in the gear tunnel.

A motorcycle cargo net on the seat backs makes a great way to keep them from getting on the center console.
