I dunno, the airflow-tracking aspect might be too much of a good thing: my dog gets cold easily. She starts shivering if the temperature drops below about 75F. I can imagine a dog locked in a vehicle working to find a spot where they aren't getting hit by blowing air. If the airflow tracks the dog, this might cause frustration!

However, some sort of critter-cam would be awesome! I have three "Furbos" set up around my house. These allow me to watch the animals (and, incidentally, the rest of the house--one of mine is set up so that it can monitor the water heater as well as the litter box and the cats' food bowl) when we're away from home. Two of the units also allow me to remotely toss treats. We're seriously considering getting a fourth unit and setting it up in the truck--it could easily and unobtrusively sit on the dash. Something built-in that accomplished this would be nice! (Rivian has removed the driver-monitoring camera already or that could have been repurposed to perform this task.)

I like dogs, but will never understand people who center their lives around them and take them everywhere.

My favorite is the doggie backpacks where you take your dog for a hike with your dog in the backpack.

I thought they were pretty damn dumb too... Then I learned about puppy joint development and why you don't take <1 year old pups on excessively long walks, hikes, etc. Before I knew this, I took my bluetick coonhound on every hike I did from 4 months onward, and sure enough he got a jacked up shoulder that needed surgery at 1 year old. Not fun for him or my pocketbook.

9 years later, I've considered repurposing an overnight pack as a Dougie pack, but am concerned he'd get too hot. Alas, he stayed with my better half while I went hiking with a friend today... And saw someone carrying a cat in one of those packs while walking a dog.

We have a 10lb Rescue that we adopted at 2.5. She is now 16 and one of her hangups is she has separation anxiety. If we leave her home she will go crazy. I also work from home and if I go upstairs I can guarantee she will be upstairs looking for me within 5-10 minutes. As a result, she goes everywhere with us.

Luckily she's a great rider in 'her truck' and Pet Mode is such a convenience when it's hot tor cold. I'd also stack my little doggo up against most every kid in a restaurant and she's better behaved.

When we fly from the Bay Area to Seattle to visit family, she goes with us (pet in cabin). Go Mtn Biking, she goes. It's easier on her in the long run to be with us, as she's part of the pack.

I applaud those who think ahead for their pets (and kids too). A few months back doing trail work miles from the trailhead, two guys were carrying a 100+ lb English bulldog who was suffering from heat exhaustion.

Has anyone seen more news on this?!? Posted by @rivianupdates

A few NEW Rivian patents became public this morning, including a Rivian connected dog collar!
This collar communicates with the vehicle to adjust airflow based on your dog’s location in the cabin and can even lower the vehicle so it's easier for your dog to get in. This collar can also act as a tracker, helping you locate your dog if they wander off.
It seems that the vehicle’s UI can even suggest dog parks and pet friendly places when your dogs collar is sensed onboard.
As someone who works with dogs every day and has two of my own, I would love this in my R1T. BUT it's just a patent so we can only hope.

Patent is #20240217305 and #20240217531 for those curious.
Hi, thanks for sharing. Just to clarify, these are publications of the patents applications, and not granted patents themselves. I'm sure they will get a patent on this technology but they do not actually have patents just yet. As it can be a lengthy process, whatever patents they get probably won't be for a couple more years.

Do you need to understand this? No one is forcing you to do the same, or saying you're a bad person for not doing it. I don't understand the point of this comment.

I use pet mode with no pet often just as a means of keeping the cabin cool in the insane Texas heat. It works better for me than tripping the AC remotely through the app, which disables after 15-20 mins or so, at least until they fix that.
I do the same. Sucks that you can’t turn on(/off) Pet Comfort from the app though. I just found out yesterday about the climate control timing out after a while. I previously had a Model Y and that climate would run all day.

There are loads of people that parent their children one way and others prefer another way. Same with dogs. I grew up with dogs. Dad bought home a lab pup when I was six months old and we always had dogs. To me, they give unconditional love and loyalty and only ask for our love in return. We can choose to show that love in whatever way we see fit. Cheers.

Or put a cat in the gear tunnel.
We have several strays who've taken up residence in my garage. This big boy loves the gear tunnel. Only got stuck in there once. His muffled meows were so pathetic. ?

Yeah, you should never anthropomorphize animals, they hate it when you do that.

I’d definitely prefer that more people bring their dogs in public than their kids.
I agree - Never! I had a long conversation with my dog about that subject this morning. She agreed.

The other day I saw a woman with her kid on one of those springy kid leashes in a store. I asked her if it was a rescue. She got a little bitchy about it. I thanked her for not telling it to attack and bite me.
