The headlights were one of the things that gave me pause when I was considering buying the Rivian. It's been a year and I'm used to it now mostly because I don't see the headlights 99% of the time. It's just different. I get a lot of comments from random strangers on how much they like the headlights. So, to each their own.

I like the Scout design, I think they did a good job. But I also think it will very quickly get lost in a sea of similar, more generic headlights. It already looks highly derivative of the "four point surround" Porsche uses for the Taycan headlights.

Back in January I posted a thread that Rivian should change their front headlights. I thought it could attract more buyers. I received an incredible amount of backlash for such a suggestion. Low and behold the Scout. Totally different front end and it looks fantastic. Great job Rivian!
Started two threads, one talking about his opinion of the headlights, the second supporting his previous opinion of the headlights.

Appears to be a sad, miserable life when you feel you must expend the effort to contribute like that.

Must vehicles be such a projection of human attributes? Gender, Power, Smart, Angry, Etc. ? To me the Rivian chose a "logo" icon like headlight, I like it, but such things are not an extinsion of identity, are they? I say if someone needs to project, they can dress themselves anyway they must, but the vehicle is just a vehicle, a mode of transportation, not a social statement, to me anyway.

I do like the design of the Scout prototypes but I also like the Rivian design. While I do have a preference for the Scout's look from the front, the Rivian approach is definitely more unique and is a branding symbol. I actually really like the Rivian headlights - when I first saw them in person I found them to be beautifully designed objects in themselves. The Gen 2 version is a downgrade in my opinion as it has lost the distinctive radial pattern around the edge. I think the polarizing aspect of the design is the overall composition of front fascia. If the headlights themselves were closer to the corners /fenders (more conventional) I think there would not be naysayers. For me, it was the overall vehicle design & performance that made me a buyer, not one particular design element.

I guess that I disagree with several of the tenets offered in this thread. I happen to like the vertical headlight arrangement of the the Rivian. it is the most noticeable feature that makes a Rivian stand out in the crowd. Those who don't loke it can just buy a truck that looks like everything else on the road. The Rivian is a cutting edge truck and needs to look like one.

Our sweet Opal (our R1T) may be a little "Minion looking", but that's just fine as she can eat Corvettes for lunch. As far as her needing gender affirming care, I don't think so. Opal looks just like she is supposed to, sweet and nice until she kicks your ass.

One of Opal's stable mates is Vivian. She is a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Duramax. Vivian is big and mean looking and often scares small children. If anything, Vivian could stand a little softening in the looks department. What's interesting is that Opal has almost the same torque as Vivian and twice the horsepower. I have included a picture of the girls resting on the driveway to show the difference.

Opal is the modern version of what we used to call a "sleeper", like a stripped down 1963 Dodge two door sedan with black wall tires and hub caps powered by a dual quad 413.

I think that if you really want a truck that looks like all the others and doesn't perform as well as a Rivian, you can wait for three years and buy a Scout.

Nice T-bird! And it’s almost Rivian Blue! ‘57?
The color of the T-bird is called Peacock. I wish that Rivian Blue leaned a little more that way.
