I'm honestly not sure how the situation came about, he was just relaying an amusing anecdote about what happens if you have the wrong combination of height and stiffness.
If you go into Sport mode and override the ride to Soft from Stiff, it will stay that way unless and until you change it back. Even leaving Sport mode and going back into it, it retains your last setting

Does hitting the reset button return it to the default setting?

I'm not sure you can call that a 'launch mode'. It's just how you get any car off the line faster.

If you watch enough YouTube, you should already know this. But thank you for posting.
My goal in life is never to watch “enough” YouTube! I appreciate the comment because I was unaware of this ability!

This is how I launch mine too but with stability control reduced.

When I went on my first mile drive, way over a year now, I had seen practically every youttube produced. The launch mode was mentioned in videos of the very early days some lucky folks were invited to drive the R1T's before first mile drives were a thing. So on my own first mile drive I asked my guide if I could floor it. So I launched it. You should have seen his face lol. Apparently that was the first time he had been in an R1T when either him or any of his passengers had tried that, and he was a guide!. So yep it makes a difference. That acceleration was what sealed my purchase, had a smile for days lol.

I thought this was common knowledge on how to "launch" any EV? ?
Nope. If you hold the brake and floor the throttle in a Tesla Model 3 it limits motor output to prevent you from overwhelming the brakes and your 0-60 is actually a lot slower because of it. The best way to launch that car is just to floor it.

Doing the launch vs just flooring in a Rivian makes a pretty substantial difference.

Similar with my Mach-E GTPE. If you hold the brakes hard, it will have a slight delay as the electronics work themselves out (stability and brake auto-hold). But if you hold the brake slightly -- just enough to hold the car -- and floor it, you will get a MUCH better launch and I've seen my quickest 0-60 times this way.

I agree. Just about any "automatic" vehicle will launch better this way. You'll get almost as quick just flooring it, so it depends on the driver and conditions, too.

I'm guessing Rivian didn't program a Launch Mode in this fashion (unless they are truly doing something different with the software and power delivery when launching in this fashion).

Yep! Sport mode, lowest, stiff, reduced stability...tell your passengers to lean back...

They just don't tell you that it does!

Learned something new today, watching a review.

While other companies advertise how to use their launch mode, it appears that despite Rivian not bringing attention to it, it does have a similar launch mode to a Tesla Model 3/Y or other cars.

It doesn't adjust the suspension. But, if you press all the way down on the brake pedal and hold, then press and hold the throttle. When you're ready, simply release the brake pedal.

Nothing too exciting and pretty basic. Also not something I personally have a need for, but good to know that it's there, just in case.

Actually you need to put it into sport mode and also turn off stability control if you want to get 100% power, otherwise you'll get around 95%

I think we can all agree that the right combination of height and stiffness is key.

Does anyone worry that from a stop all that sudden torque on the Half-Shafts/CV may induce the infamous "tock"/strain that connection? I was watching Skyler from RS on a video some time ago and he mentioned he only does a "rolling launch" because of this fear.
