Adding a post so it can be found later by others with a Linear garage door opener.

I just picked up my 2024 R1T and was attempting to program my garage door opener into the Rivian settings, but it would fail constantly with a message of , "Garage Opener failed to lean the vehicle's signal." It would show try again or cancel buttons, both of which lost the programming and started you over.

I attempted to use the remote that was provided with my linear garage door opener, a three button remote, many times. I tried about 10 times the first day and then quit. I tried calling in to Rivian and trying again with the learn button on the opener without success. I tried about five more times the second day after a soft reboot, still no. Rivian booked a mobile tech to come out in a week.

After searching Reddit and the Rivian forum, I mostly saw people say they couldn't get it to work but with no follow up. We actually have two linear door openers, so I decided to try programming the second door opener into the Rivian and it worked first time no issue. Odd, so I know that it can work with a linear door opener now, but why not the opener I needed?

I remembered that each of my linear door openers came with two remotes with a total of six buttons that could be programmed. I became curious if the particular code for the button I had was the issue. I took one of the extra remotes, pressed the learn button, pressed the remote button and added it to the linear garage door opener. I attempted to use that remote, still nothing on the new button. hmm. ok, I still have multiple buttons to try. I did a soft reboot of the Rivian, setup another button on the remote (happened to be the middle button) and then went through the steps of adding it to the Rivian and it worked!!!

Steps I took to add a Linear Garage Door opener to the Rivian R1T:
1. Soft reboot the Rivian
2. Programed a new button on the remote to the garage door opener
3. Navigated to the garage -> add setting in the Rivian
4. Held the new button down next to the rear view mirror and pressed the pair button on the screen
5. The Rivian went to the screen where it attempts to communicate with the opener and it took a few seconds but worked
6. I clicked the test button on the screen and the door opened
7. Clicked done, boom working garage

Steps to add a Remote Control Button to a Linear Garage door Opener:
1. Press the opener’s LEARN button. The opener’s light and red light will flash once and turn on for about 15 seconds. A remote must be added while the red light is still on.
2. Send a signal from a remote. The opener’s light and the red light will flash once if a remote was added

My current hypothesis is that the Linear garage door openers use the Megacode format which they claim, "The system can be programmed to more than a million different codes." and this means maybe certain codes do work like my secondary garage or this button that I got to work. Other codes don't seem to play nice with the Rivian. The hard part is that there can be a million different codes, so fingers crossed you get one that plays nice. This is just a hypothesis though, maybe the Rivian just decided to work on the 30th time ;)

I hope this can help another Rivian owner out there with a Linear garage door opener.
