So, on my most recent road trip I finally had an opportunity to hit a Rivian network for a charge and DAMN, it was the most expensive per kWh charge I've ever had. I've had the truck for almost 2.5 years and have used half a dozen different networks that all vary in price, but 60 cents per kWh on Rivian network takes the cake for me....

Sure, it was convenient and was literally plug and charge, but I'll take having to get my phone out to start the charge on another network to save.... What's everyone else paying?

Very dependent on area. Just did a trip to Portland the other day, and Rivian pricing was within $0.03 of Tesla and EA (Rivian was the cheapest FWIW). DCFC is very expensive across the board.

I drove from Northern Virginia to Blacksburg recently. We've taken the route a number of times to visit our daughter at college.

The Rivian network charger in Roanoke was more expensive than any other charger on 81. Also, the fastest.

Does any other manufacturer support plug n charge with Tesla SC while giving them the Tesla discount for the monthly membership? It is annoying to use the app each time but well worth it considering the cost and locations.

No, the issue with plug and charge is that the billing is through the OEM, not a direct payment from you to Tesla. Tesla just sees the Rivian certificate in the handshake, they bill Rivian and Rivian has your billing info. Ford tried this with EA a few years ago with some Beta testers, and they were also unable to make it work. Ford was charging a $50 annual fee to those that wanted the discount, then they paid that to EA. But in the end, EA could not figure out if a given vehicle had the discount or not.

There's no valid comparison. Rates vary insanely from one location to another and by time of day. I have paid 24 cents to Supercharge at Red Rock Casino in NV, and almost 70 cents at peak time in the middle of nowhere. RAN in Phoenix is cheaper than the SC next to it, but SC in Kingman is cheaper than RAN...etc.

Hmm. I have charged my R1S at Tesla chargers using Tesla app always. Tesla charged my cc directly each time, no Rivian middle man ever involvef; Tesla only all the way.

Yes, it varies by area. Have a trip to Seattle coming up. Tesla SC only for me. $0.32/kWh in North Bend, WA, $0.51/kWh in Quincy, WA, both without membership fee. A no-brainer which one I will use.

For years, the story has been that the Tesla charger network is not-for-profit. Whether true or not, my experience has shown that Tesla charges you less than the others outfits.

I charge at home the vast majority of the time and agree when charging from home it is much cheaper, but at 78 cents a kWh it's much more expensive than gas.

I find Tesla much cheaper if you have the membership, coin toss without it where some places cheaper some not.

On a long trip, well worth paying the Tesla membership as many sites are close to 18 cents cheaper or more with the membership. One charge of 73 kWh covers the membership fee if the difference is 18 cents a kWh.

In March my savings on a 7500 mile trip relying on the SC for charging easily saved me 269.52 compared to the EA membership average and 549.05 compared to the average RAN cost. Well worth the 20.98 for the month on the two memberships. I only used chargers on my route, did not go out of the way for lower cost options.

Was pretty happy with the 2.38 m/kWh averaged in my early G1 R1S quad.

Useful info. Thank you.
My trip to the Rivian SC in Seattle will take probably two deep-charge sessions only, cheaper to pay the Rivian price at Tesla chargers.

The Tesla SC I plan on using, which is in North Bend, WA: $0.32 Rivian charge; $0.26 for Teslas.
Here is one interesting factoid. At this Tesla SC location, there are chargers from a certain other company (hint: forever thought of as unreliable). It charges $0.43 per kWh. That is a 65% higher cost than what Tesla charges; these other chargers are a mere 200 ft. away across the same parking lot.

I will not mention here again what exactly I think about all these other DCFC outfits and their let's call them higher prices because on this site there appear to be some seemingly very staunch defenders of those prices, and my ranting about them must have hit a raw nerve with them 🤣

Another price point comparison, this location always stumps me, literally EA, Tesla, and Rivian in same parking lot in Albuquerque, NM. EA is most expensive at 56 cents, Tesla has TOU here most expensive is daytime at 49 cents over night is 28 cents. Membership for EA drops to price to .42, Tesla membership drops price to 36 and 21 cents.

Rivian is open to other EVs and has Rivian specific pricing

We have 15 months left of free RAN left in our R1S - so it's hard to beat that price. I do wonder how many others are in the same boat we are, forcing a higher price for those not riding the referral credit train.
