I seriously think Rivian exec sales folks are incompetent and don't understand the EV market.

I've seen 4 different demo R1Ses pop back up on the demo site. I have screenshots of 2 that actually increased in price over the year also (I posted in a different thread). These have been sitting for a least a year in FL.

Tesla cuts prices until vehicles are sold. Rivian just sits on vehicles for 16+ months. The glut of Rivians doesn't surprise me one bit.
That’s an expensive three year old demo vehicle from the previous generation. They are asking way too much.

I have always found demo vehicles to be an interesting option. Years ago, mom bought a 1991 Chevy Caprice Classic...was a demo vehicle...fully loaded...maroon with maroon leather. It was a beautiful car and it drove like you were floating on a cloud.

I guess it depends on what your goals are. They are expensive vehicles and I understand if folks don't want to buy a truck that has had someone else's posterior in the seat for any length of time 😂

Demos will always be more than comparable used examples because the demo vehicles include the full new vehicle warranty which for gen1 quad is 8y/175,000 miles. So if the truck has 8,000 miles on it it would effectively be in warranty until it hits 183,000 miles or 8 years from delivery date even though its a 2022 model. Don't forget that one has the meridian system in it too which many here claim is really good. Its also technically a new vehicle so if one in financing it they will pay a lower interest rate.

While the warranty may be longer a three year old vehicle with wear and tear and a second gen already out should be lower in price. Sitting around waiting to be sold is not good, Rivian should have a reasonable price and liquidate assets like this to get income.

So I checked my e-mail and this is almost 11 months old. Same VIN. But the price was actually $2K less a year ago.

Same thing happened with the Atlanta R1S demo... it sat for 9 months and Rivian increased it $2K before selling it or whatever they did with it. Rivian has a serious demand issue at the current price points.

Yeah raising the price doesn’t make sense there.

It’s kind of genius. The performance update costs Rivian absolutely nothing at all. They post it as a “$6500 discount” but $5000 of it is basically vapor ware.

I've had a similar debate about this on Tesla forums and their acceleration boost option. Very close to what Rivian is doing and I would bet they copied what Tesla did.

While I think it is very profitable for them to do so, I am sure there are increased warranty claims as a result. Not to mention some development time that went into this.

I think Rivian overcharged for the upgrade, but probably did it to split the difference in price and performance between the dual motor and the quad.

@NeedSumCoffee I had this same thought….it also lures someone who might have been considering the Tri motor by offering performance upgrade for only $1,500. If cost savings is the objective you still get the $3,000 off Dual AFAIK. That makes the dual $4,500 less than performance instead of $5,000 less at regular prices….so it’s still worth it to go for regular dual if you don’t need performance.

Official word has always been "first half of '26". Not "Q1".
It's better to under promise and over deliver. I also believe that RIVIAN R2 will start their deliveries in Q1 of 2026 or even as earlier as late Q4 2025 since the factory is ahead of schedule.
