The problem right now is economic uncertainty exacerbated by the tariff situation & DOGE, higher interest rates, and yes higher costs for pretty much everything else.

banks have also been tightening their lending standards due to higher rates of default on auto loans.

Expensive luxury vehicles ….even ones that are as compelling as Rivian are slow to move right now.

One bright spot …at least for Rivian….is that many Tesla owners have been jumping over to Rivian because they dislike Elon and Rivian vehicles are the most similar to Tesla tech wise.

This is a strong incentive on dual max performance and we may just pull the trigger here soon.
I hear anecdotal about Tesla owners selling and buying Rivian’s but if that was really the case in any significant way then Rivian would have no sales issues since there are millions of Teslas on the road and Rivian is looking for 4000 R1 sales a month so would not need many Tesla owners to switch. Since Rivian seemingly now have demand issues it would seem the great mass of Tesla owners are not switching to Rivian.

I didn't get the one you got but did get this one. I do not have R2 reservation. No I was not interested.

Get $10,500 in lease offers1 on any new R1 vehicle with a trade-in.
Spring is here and Rivian’s all-terrain, all-electric vehicles are ready to explore with you. With our Electric Refresh offer, when you trade in your R1, you’ll enjoy $10,500 in leasing offers on any new R1S or R1T ordered between April 1 - 30, 2025. Once you trade in your vehicle, contact a sales advisor to apply this offer. See terms and conditions.
I got that one also. I do have an R2 reservation but may hold off for R3X. I’m not nearly ready to give up my R1 T, which I love

I keep seeing these deals, and nothing seems to come close to my lease deal from this past August:

$0 down (well…$500 down payment)
2024 R1T Dual w/ Stealth El Cap & PTC
$605/mo 3yr lease

I combined the $6k “Friends and Family” discount w/ $7,500 lease credit. Cheaper than my A5 lease I turned in.

Not that I have any plans on 'trading up' (I mean...it's only 9 months old), but I do like to keep an eye on things as I usually trade out of leases ~ 3-6 months before it's up.

March 2025 imagery from the McLean County GIS. The stockpile is real.

Not sure how much of this is real, sometimes combine images. Also I would say 3/4 of them look like vans. If is real, maybe they started building the 2026 models and won’t release until the 2025 is out of inventory.

It is actually more R1s than EDV. My estimate is 6,700 R1 and 5,000 EDV, 11,700 total. While the EDV does take up more area in the parking lot it is a larger vehicle.

For my sampling method I measured the number of linear meters for each vehicle type. I then counted how many vehicles of each type fit into 50m. After that it is pretty simple to estimate how many vehicles there are. Any missing vehicles from a row were subtracted out, unfortunately, it was easier to count empty spots because it was so full.

I got a basic foot long Subway sandwich today and it was $17.50. Now wait for the tariffs to kick in. Interesting times ahead.
You need to get a coupon.

I've got a 24 Gen1 Dual Large, I will take this up of I see the offer. I got $6000 as Employee referral and $7500 lease credit on it. Already bought and wrote it off under Section 179 :) Having taken some longer trips Bay Area to Tahoe Max pack is justified to me. Looking for Rivian to give me $6500+$7500(credit) in Dual Max Gen2.

Not as good a deal as it looks. Max pack is $6000, Performance is $5000, so a total of $11,000. So in effect they are giving you a 60% discount...And id call the Perf package "not worth it" until it gets to $2000, which is what Tesla sells their MY perf upgrade for. I got the Max upgrade for $3000 (50% off) and $3500 off the lease (IIRC) for getting a trade quote for my Tesla - but not actually trading it in. So, i basically got the Max pack for free - tho its not worth anywhere close to $6000! The Max packs dont seem to be moving, which just says the market has spoken and they dont see them as worth $6000.

On the other side, i keep getting similar emails from tesla to buy a new MY. Not biting...
Hi @andrewgrhogg Can you please let me know how you got the $3500 off the lease? I am considering the lease incentives for May.

They had a deal where if you put your car up for a trade-in and got a quote then you got the rebate. You didn’t need to actually sell them the car. I put up my Model Y but then defined the trade-in offer and sold it myself.

I think the latest version of this is that you actually have to trade the car in to get the discount.

I know right! I looked for coupons after that. It is hard to compare coupon prices though. Companies increase prices, add coupons and gradually wean off coupons. Same with prescription drugs.

I was in a hurry and very hungry. Almost everything costs $17.50 minimum before tip now. This was just a neighborhood location, not downtown or anything special.

I agree, always have purchased my vehicles outright. However, I read somewhere that over 80 percent of vehicles at the R1 price point (6 figures or near) are leased...EV or ICE.

Makes sense, especially if that report of thousands stockpiled at Normal is true.
I was there about 10 days ago and was a bit astounded by the volume of (acres upon acres) of Rivians in the lot. Further the volume of Amazon trucks was even larger...it felt like it went on as far as I could see. I should have sent up the drone.
