Any one run into this issue before? While driving to work the r1s just decided it needed to reboot.

Kinda scary when driving and your whole car shuts off. Stereo system, screens, etc.

On the bright side the vehicle remained operational on basic functionality, such as acceleration and braking. I have no idea if I could have shifted to park or if the vehicle lights (brake, headlights, turn signals, etc) were working.

I submitted an issue ticket with rivian but based on my service experience so far with rivian I have little faith they will even look into it and provide anything besides an "it's normal" response. Sorry for the crap photo but I don't use my phone while driving and it was difficult to snap.

Edit: after looking at my photo it appears the lights work and the shifter info was displayed. It looks like this is a backup computer system that does the absolute basics of vehicle driving while the main computer reboots.

Had that happen a bit over a week ago on our R1S. Never had the R1T do it.

This happened to me a couple times. Rivian service didn't really care. They created a ticket but denied that it was a safety issue (I disagree!)

Lol. So all the safety mechanisms we have access to via the infotainment (blind spot assist, cameras, warning lights, speedometer, etc) don't pose a safety issue when they're not accessible? Their logic makes no sense to me.

Reminds me of the time Driver+ threw me into the shoulder and almost into a barricade for no reason and Rivian said it was "Operating as designed". LOL, it was designed to 90 degree turn into a concrete barrier while driving straight on the highway!?

This needs to be reported for awareness but seems likely to be a software bug so really nothing that service centers can do about it. Just keep an eye on release notes for a software update that fixes what will likely be classified as a "rare" problem.

If you can’t drive your vehicle without those nannies active then you are the safety issue, not the vehicle.

Let me guess. You're against using seatbelts as well... ?

Not at all but not having a blind spot assist or camera doesn’t make the vehicle unsafe. Even no speedometer isn’t unsafe, you can clearly see outside and judge the speed of the vehicle fairly accurately. Not saying it’s good to have this problem by any means but if the steering, accelerator and brakes still work it’s not unsafe.

Hasn't happened to me yet, but when I had a Tesla Model S it would do that every once in a while. And when it happened, I could still drive and brake safely, but the the HVAC would also reboot and the windows wouldn't go down so it go pretty hot during that wait for the reboot sometimes.

I once had all interior and exterior lights (including headlights) go out on my '00 Honda Accord while driving on a pitch black road at 5 am on a cold winter morning... now that was a safety issue.

I’ve never had my R1T do it, but I do wish we could manually trigger a reboot while driving. I could do that in the Tesla if something was being wonky but with the Rivian I have to pull over and stop or just deal with whatever problem I’m having for the duration of the drive.

I suppose it's reassuring that the infotainment instability doesn't directly impact driving but that still sounds like a potential safety issue to me. The reboots can take a while and you might not have any control of the lights or wipers.

I am having the same issue, but a little worse as my R1T screens will stay off between 25-40 minutes. I have marked each event in the truck log and reported the incident to Rivian each time. It has happened 6 times since September delivery (include delivery day with the Rivian delivery technician there). Sleep cycle reset seems to be the only way to get the screens back. Pulling over by the side of the road, walking away from your truck for a half hour isn't an acceptable fix. I scheduled a service with Rivian. They scheduled me for six weeks out.

Just an update. I created an issue in the rivian app. It has been removed and i see no history of the issue.

As always, Rivian service and support is just fantastic! Honestly its this crap treatment that has me seriously considering selling this vehicle and going back to my old truck.

Side note: does anyone know where to find your historical issues that you submitted. They just disappear in the app and when i log into the website i dont even see a service page.
