Waste of money for Rivian to buy Lucid to create the sedan. Rivian can do it on their own for much cheaper and better.

They're not in a rush to release a sedan so they have plenty of time to use the knowledge from R1 and R2 to create the sedan if they wish.

Save the cash in the bank and the equity value for something more important with better returns.

Folks, Rivian would not buy Lucid, it would be a merger based on the value of each company. Lucid has three things: superior battery technology (which neither the Japanese nor the Germans have at all), deep pockets from an investor which has a track record of staying with an investment, and finally a flawed strategy. Rivian has great products that unfortunately cost too much right now, even though they lose a lot of money on each one they produce, an optimal strategy, but are capital constrained. Just like Tesla, Rivian has to scale the smaller, cheaper versions of both the RT and the RS to jump the valley and survive. To do it, they will either have to go back to the public markets, hard ride, or lock in a very deep pocket investor.

I've said for a while now, that IF there was a buyer for Rivian from the existing automotive manufacturers, that BMW might be a really good fit.

Rivian is high(er) end, they would fill a missing market segment for BMW (they'd have a nice, EV based direct Land Rover competitor / and a new "adventure" segment), and BMW already owns and is managing a few brands (Mini, RR).

Rivian gets a much larger dealer network, manufacturing improvements and scale, etc.

Again, this doesn't take into account the financial viability of such a move, just sort of ruminating over a good product and culture fit. :)

Lucid needs to prove it can survive and needs orders. My vote would be no. Now if Tesla was interested in Rivian that would have my vote

As someone who has both a lucid and rivian in our family.. I'm quite surprised at the amount of folks in here balking at Rivian "gaining nothing" in this mythical proposal of merging. The Lucid is an incredible machine with the upper hand in many areas (range, power, charging speed, cabin finishings etc).

I don't support this merger but... has anyone here driven a Lucid or have any educated opinion or you're just reading articles and regurgitating what you read in someone's post on reddit?

I totally agree with you if we were discussing the vehicles that Lucid builds. I really like what they are attempting to do and feel if they had started with their SUV instead of the sedan they would be in a better place right now.

Pretty much all the comments so far have to do with the value of Lucid as a company at the moment. One young struggling company probably should steer clear of taking over another young company that is struggling even more.

Lucid the car is fantastic.

Lucid the company, not so much.

I think that's where most folks are coming from with their comments.

They should partner with BYD and sell their product under Rivian's name in the states. They need to tackle the affordable EV problem and BYD has that figured out. Plus they look like they have a good product.

I would say not yet. They could license the motor technology though.
