All,
Considering a couple of 23 R1Ss. Their Vin number begins 7PDSGABA. Is this a quad motor large battery pack? Thanks in advance.

Is there any indication in the VIN if it's a max battery? Any way to tell visually? TIA

Not that I've found. The VIN for my vehicle showed all three battery options when I looked it up. Only way to know is to go into the menus, I think.

Which played in my favor...the place I bought it from didn't know what they had...they listed it as a Dual Standard and when I bought it and looked in the menus, it turned out to be a Max.

Hey all, I've been trying to track down a used R1T Max pack from 2023/2024 and thought I had a solid lead on a late '23 based on VIN, but the About section says otherwise. Is this an exception to the "C in the 6th position" rule, or is it all basically just a crap-shoot? Thanks in advance!

You may want to ask Rivian. They did have some vehicles sold with software limited battery packs in 2024. It might be one of those but I thought they were listed as large+. VIN does indicate 2024 Max/Dual. 🤷🏻

I reached out to Rivian but have yet to hear back. I've also done a lot of googling and it seems like you're correct that this is a software locked battery. The reason it doesn't say "Large+" is because that was never an official Rivian designation, it was simply a Max battery sold as a Large due to Large battery pack shortages and they didn't want people feeling like they were getting stiffed. I'm on the fence about buying this truck; any future chance of paying to unlock it would likely cost way more than the depreciation is worth so that can't factor in to my decision.
